* Know the country's laws and what is legal and what is not.
* If traveling to Muslim countries, women travelers should dress accordingly to the local laws and customs.
* Do not flash valuables such as mobile phones and jewelry out in the open.
* If you travel in a group, split your spending money amongst yourselves, and consider carrying traveler checks.
* Stick to busy well lit areas if you go out at night.
* Do not hitch-hike and drive only during the day if possible.
* Do not let your bags out of your sight while traveling from place to place.
