Grand Place

Grand Place is Lille’s main square, the heart of the city and one of the best places in Lille to start marveling at beautiful architecture such as Palace Rihour and Vielle Bourse (Old Stock Exchange).


Palace Rihour is one of the best examples of medieval palaces in the city  housing art exhibition works in the main hall, while the Old Stock Exchange has a beautiful inner courtyard where a antique book market is held weekly

Lille Cathedral

Lille Cathedral (La Basilique Notre Dame de la Treille) is another of the places to visit in Lille and it’s located a short walk from Grand Place. The cathedral is a beautifully decorated exterior, while inside you’ll find a many more beautiful ornaments and a massive organ.

Hospice Comtesse Museum

The Hospice Comtesse Museum is one of the oldest buildings in Lille and it's located nearby Lille Cathedral.

The hospice turned museum is definitely a place worth checking out because of the interesting religious and Flemish art works, as well as the exhibition rooms which feature tapestries of Guillaume Werniers and the paintings of the Watteau brothers amongst others.

Lille Botanical Garden

Lille Botanical Garden is one of the few green areas in the city where you can getaway and enjoy a relaxing stroll, and if you’re interested in plants, you'll love this garden! The place boasts hundreds of beautiful and varied exotic plants like banana plants, coffee plants and palm trees, as well as a rose garden and an astronomical observatory.

Charles de Gaulle House

If you’re a history buff and would like to know more about Charles de Gaulle, the house where De Gaulle grew up is located on Princesse (Rue) Street, not far from Lille Botanical Gardens (Jardin des Plantes).

The Charles de Gaulle House (Maison Natale Charles de Gaulle) has been turned into a museum and it pretty much remains the way it was back in the 19th century. Today, you can see old photos, his bedroom and some of his works.

Citadel of Lille

If you’re traveling with the family and are looking for things to do in Lille with kids outdoors, the Citadel of Lille is one of the best places to visit in Lille, and it’s only a short walk from Charles de Gaulle House.

The Citadel is built in the shape of a pentagon and it’s surrounded by a moat, while inside of the Citadel, you’ll find a zoo, kid’s playgrounds and beautiful wooded areas with trails that you can walk along.

Gate of Paris
