Interesting places to visit in Wyoming

The state of Wyoming is a wildlife and outdoors enthusiast paradise, home to some of the top 10 natural wonders in the USA such as the Old Faithful.

Interesting places to visit in Wyoming

Wyoming also boasts a diverse wildlife such as buffalo and elk that can be observed at Teton National Park, as well as attractions characteristic of the state such as the geysers in Yellowstone Park and frontier towns such as Jackson Hole.

One of Wyoming’s famous claims it’s that the state is the home of the first established national park in the world - Yellowstone National Park, which is one of the most interesting places to visit in Wyoming. If you are traveling to Wyoming for the first time and are wondering what attractions and things to see, here it a list of my favorite places:

Casper

The city of Casper is first on my list of interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the many museums and historic sites that you can visit. If you re a history buff, you’d enjoy a visit to Fort Caspar Historical Grounds and learn more about this 1900’s confederate trading post.

Even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll be fascinated by this beautifully restored trading post, and enjoy live re-enactments demonstrations. The National Historic Trails Center is another interesting place to visit in Casper and a must-see attraction if you want to learn more about the pioneer trails and hardships endured by early settlers. The National Historic Trails Center is also an interpretive center which features fun interactive exhibits to suit the whole family.

Thermopolis

I added Thermopolis to the list of interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the hot springs and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center.

Thermopolis is home to one of the largest mineral hot spring in the world and visiting one of the many hot-spring spas is a great way to wind-down after a long day visiting sites and tourist attractions. Thermopolis also boasts one of the most interesting dinosaur centers in the states, not only because of the amazing dinosaur skeleton reconstructions but also because it’s one of the few places that allow you to see archeologists at work unearthing fossils.

Rawlins

The town of Rawlins is another of the interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the interesting frontier buildings such as the Rawlins Masonic Temple built in early 1900’s.

Apart from enjoying an interesting walking tour of the downtown area, Rawlins also boasts the historic Wyoming Frontier Prison which is now turned into a museum. Whether you’re interested in the Old West or not, you’ll find fascinating touring this old frontier prison and learn about the prisoners lives.

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is certainly one of the most interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the pristine natural scenery and opportunities for outdoor activities.

However, even if you don’t intend on enjoying a camping vacation in Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park is truly one place you can’t afford to miss while visiting Wyoming. You can enjoy Yellowstone guided tours with an experienced guide to learn more about the wildlife and natural attractions such as spectacular geysers, and the explore surreal bubbling mud pots at Fountain Paint Pots.

Jackson Hole

Jackson is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the Historical Society & Museum which is an excellent place to learn about frontier life and marvel at frontier items and artifacts such as cooking utensils and pictures.

Exploring Jackson Hole Town Square Center  is another interesting thing to do while in Jackson Hole because of the Old West buildings. Also, if you visit Jackson Hole during the warm months, you can enjoy live re-enactments such as Old West gunfights recreations.

Battle Lake

Battle Lake is just a short drive south of Rawlings and worthy to be on the list of interesting places to visit in Wyoming.

Battle Lake was Thomas Edison’s favourite fishing vacation spot, and it is said that while fishing Thomas Edison literary had a ‘light bulb moment’ which interestingly enough would lead him to invent the incandescent bulb.

Sinks Canyon State Park

Sinks Canyon State Park is lastly on my list of interesting places to visit in Wyoming because of the fascinating Popo Agie River mystery where the stream of water pours into a cave and literary vanishes, and seems to go nowhere.

However,  the river stream later reappears hours later, miles away. To this day, scientists aren't able to explain this phenomenon and noone seems to know where the river goes for those few hours!
