Things To Do While Travelling India

What comes to mind when you think about traveling to India? Perhaps you are like me and you instantly think of the Taj Mahal, Yoga and Bollywood. India has a lot more than that to offer, especially for the adventure traveler. Even if you might not be up for climbing Mount Everest, you can still live out the adventure of a lifetime.

I am a firm believer in adventure travel, and seeing as much of the world as I can. If you want to do some soul searching or chase down an adrenaline rush, take some serious time to forget all of your notions about the “real world” and travel around the globe. I suggest you schedule at least 2 weeks while planning your trip. The following list of things to do while travelling India is just a small sample of hundreds of other things you can do in India:

Go Dune Bashing in Rajasthan

Travel the barren lands of Rajasthan and get in touch with your inner child. Much like smashing through sand castles, get on an off-road vehicle and explore at your own speed. This is an otherworldly experience that every traveler to India should embark on.

Explore the beautiful corals off the coast of the Havelock Islands

Scuba diving in India doesn’t get much better than the Havelock Islands. The aquatic life and corals near Dixon Pinnacle, South Pilot Reef and Elephant Beach are all worth seeing. This is something that everyone should try to do. The coral reefs are disappearing, so go see them before they are gone.

Trek through the trans-Himalayan valley

In Zanskar you will pass through intricate monasteries to get to your camp next to a stream. The next day you will go through a meadow of wild flowers. The weather is mild during the summer, and there are many guided tours available for beginners.

Go white water rafting near Rishikesh. Start in Shivpuri for a daylong trip down the river with class three and four rapids. When you are done with the river experience and you find yourself in Rishikesh, take a Yoga class. This city is known as the world capital of yoga, so take advantage of the relaxing and meditative experience.

Go mountain biking in Ladakh

Mountain biking is fun for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. You will start in Manali and head toward Rohtang Pass, a very high altitude pass to get to the breathtaking Ladakh. The adventure will keep getting more intense as you venture across the highest point on Earth passable on wheels. Go from June to December to ensure the pass will be open and good weather will be on your side.

Rappel down a waterfall

Vihigaon in Thane is a tiny village with a ton of adventure potential. This is pretty extreme, you will need the skills of an experienced mountaineer to make it past the overflowing streams and roaring waterfalls. This is tricky and should not be attempted by a beginner – so beef up your technical skills and then let the adventures begin.

This world is full of great adventures just waiting to be conquered. India is the ultimate adventure travel destination if you are into smashing through sand dunes or riding the swift current of a river. Don’t stop the adventure once you experience India, travel around the world and see what it has to offer. Get out there, get that adrenaline pumping, and live your life to the fullest.
