Oshkosh is located east Wisconsin overlooking the scenic Lake Winnebago, and it’s probably most famously known for the annual EAA airshow held at Wittman Airport every summer.

If you’re traveling with family or friends and are looking for nice vacation spots in the Midwest where you can visit lots of places, you’ll be glad to know that Oshkosh boasts lots of attractions and interesting points of interests. They’re as follows:

Oshkosh Public Museum

Oshkosh Public Museum is one of the best places to visit in Oshkosh with the entire family, especially if you’re looking for educational things to do in town.

The museum offers a chance to learn about the founding and heritage of Oshkosh through interesting exhibits and artifact collections on display such as ceramics and glassware, as well as tools used by the early settlers such as medical instruments and firefighting equipment.

The Oshkosh Public Museum is located at 1331 Algoma Boulevard, near Hiker Park and Paine Art Center.

Paine Mansion

The Paine Mansion is another of the top places to visit in Oshkosh as it’s both an art center and museum.

Paine Mansion is located overlooking Hiker Park and boasts many art galleries and beautiful display gardens on display, though you can also enjoy a tour of the actual mansion and explore the different areas of this wonderful Tudor style house such as the main hall, the library, the living room and the beautiful grounds.

Menominee Park

Menominee Park is another great place to visit in Oshkosh if you’re looking for places to visit with friends or take your family on a fun day out.

Menominee Park overlooks the beautiful Lake Winnebago and boasts lots of walking trails, playgrounds, a beach area, grassy areas for picnics, a miniature railroad, amusement rides, paddleboats and a small petting zoo.

Menominee Park is located east of the downtown area along Merrit Avenue.

Wittman Regional Airport

If you enjoy seeing airplane stunts and military aircrafts, you won’t want to miss a visit to Wittman Regional Airport and attend the annual Oshkosh airshow (EAA AirVenture) during the summer. The airshow is held at Wittman Regional Airport for six days in late July(July 25th -31st).

EAA AirVenture Museum

The EAA AirVenture Museum (pictured) is, without a doubt, one of the top attractions in Oshkosh and one of the best places to visit in Oshkosh if you’re a plane enthusiast.

AirVenture Museum boasts an impressive collection of planes and aviation artifacts on display such as the famous air racer ‘Bonzo’ which was donated by Steve Wittman himself.

Besides the plane collection, AirVenture Museum boasts a cool flight simulator, as well as special events throughout the year such as the Ski Plane Fly-In at Pioneer Airport in late January, and a beer tasting event in early March.

Military Veterans Museum

If you fancy checking out more interesting artifacts, the Military Veterans Museum is another great place to visit. The museum boasts lots of military memorabilia like badges, medals, photos, uniforms and military vehicles, which are all on display.

Besides the artifacts on display, there are lots of interesting information about Wisconsin’s veterans which you can learn through the museum’s guided tours.

The Military Veterans Museum is located at 375 City Center St, just after the US Social Security Office.

Morgan House

Morgan House is another historic place in Oshkosh that you can visit on a historic tour, and the great thing is that the house still boasts the original fittings and furnishings.

If you enjoy visiting old houses, Morgan House is truly a great place to explore and get an idea how the wealthy of the time lived.

Morgan House is also part of the annual tour of Oshkosh’s historic buildings that is organized by the Winnebago Historical and Archaeological Society.

The annual tour of Oshkosh’s historic buildings normally starts in early summer, but do enquiry about this when you visit Morgan House as the Winnebago Historical and Archaeological Society is based there.

Oshkosh Opera House

Oshkosh Opera House is the oldest operating theatre building in Wisconsin and another of the historic places to visit in Oshkosh.

Besides offering a great photo opportunity, the Oshkosh Opera House is great place in town to catch an evening of performing arts.

Oshkosh Opera House is located in the heart of the city at 222 Pearl Avenue, and it currently hosts the 2010-11 Screen Film Series.

Oshkosh Public Library

If you’re looking for more places to visit in Oshkosh with the family, Oshkosh Public Library is another great place worth passing by. The library boasts a kids’ play area for the little ones, as well as adult programs such as movie matinee on Mondays.

Oshkosh Shopping Centers

Oshkosh boasts many shopping centers in town so there are lots of shopping opportunities where you can enjoy a bit of retail therapy and a fun day out with the family.

Two of the biggest shopping centres in Oshkosh are located in the downtown area - Park Plaza and Fairacres.

There are five other shopping centers just outside of the downtown area (in the vicinity of Wittman Regional Airport), which include Menard Plaza, Lake Aire, Sawyer and Landmark Plaza, which is the second largest in Oshkosh.
