Best Aquariums in the World

When it comes to best places to see marine life, there are just about a handful of aquariums that can truly be called world-class.

Two that come to mind are the London Sea Life Aquarium in England and Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Tennessee. A few others include the:

Sydney Aquarium, Australia

A few things that make the Sydney Aquarium stand out from the rest include the location, its size and the marine life on display. The Sydney Aquarium is located on Sydney's beautiful Darling Harbour and boasts a huge variety of marine life and, unlike other aquariums, the Sydney Aquarium boasts long and wide tunnels that allow you to comfortably watch sharks, rays, and other marine for hours.
Best Aquariums in the World

The cost to get into the Sydney Aquarium is around $35, which is fairly pricey but if you’re planning to see other top tourist attractions in Sydney it’s a good idea to purchase the Sydney Pass i-Venture Card to save money. You can get a 3-day Sydney pass for adults for around $155 when buying in advance.

Underwater World Singapore, Sentosa Island

The Underwater World aquarium in Singapore is one of the best aquariums in Asia and it's famous for its cool dolphin and seal shows as well as visitor experiences such as swimming with the dolphins and diving with the sharks. At the aquarium, you’ll also be able to pet sea lions, feed stingrays, and enjoy a fish reflexology spa session.

Admission to the Underwater World is around $20 for adults and $14 for kids (between 3-12 years old), which is a pretty good deal. Saying this, if you’re going to also visit the other top attractions in Singapore such as the Night Safari, Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, etc; it’s also worth purchasing the 72-Hour Unlimited Pass offered by “Go Singapore Pass”. With the 72-Hour Unlimited Pass you’ll be able to do seven of Singapore’s top attractions for just $149.

Two Oceans Aquarium Cape Town, South Africa

The great thing about the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town is that it offers visitors the opportunity to see marine life from South Africa’s Atlantic and Indian oceans such as box jellyfish, giant spider crab, honeycomb moray eel and Madagascar butterfly fishes among others.

Other cool attractions at the Two Oceans Aquarium including seeing the sharks and penguins being fed, as well as being able to enjoy shark dives at the aquarium. The admission price to the Two Oceans Aquarium is pretty affordable (around $12 for Adults and $6 for kids) but you can save even more money by buying a Cape Town pass (3-day pass costs roughly $60), which includes attractions such as the Table Mountain cableway.

The Lost Chambers of Atlantis, Dubai

The Lost Chambers Aquarium is simply stunning and it’s by far one of the best aquariums in the world because of its mind-blowing theme that beautifully recreates the mythological city of Atlantis.

There are dozens of ancient relics underwater and artifacts laid-out inside the Lost Chambers aquarium, so while strolling the place you truly get the feeling of being on a cool archeological expedition. While at the aquarium, you'll be able to enjoy feeding the rays, dive experiences, and behind the scenes tours.

As far as entrance fees, since the aquarium is located inside the Atlantis Hotel it’ll be free entrance if you're staying at the hotel. Otherwise, it costs around $27 for adults and $20 for kids (this seems a little pricey but it’s totally worth it!).

Aquarium of the Pacific, California

California boasts its fair share of great aquariums and one of the best aquariums you can visit in the state has to be the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

Thanks to exhibits such as the Ocean Science Center, the Aquarium of the Pacific is easily one of the best places in the world to learn about ocean phenomena such as low/high tides and sea-level rise in a high-tech fashion.

Besides learning about the ocean and watching 4D films, the Aquarium of the Pacific offers a fun whale watching tour that allows you to see cool marine life such as whales, dolphins and sea lions.

General admission to the Aquarium of the Pacific is around $25 for adults and $15 for kids (3-11 years old), though it's worth going for the combo ticket ($37 for adults and $20 for kids) that includes the Harbor tour and 4D film.

Ocean Park’s Marine World, Hong Kong

Another world-class aquarium that deserves mentioning on this list has to be the amazing Marine World at Ocean Park. Hong Kong's Ocean Park is one of the best theme parks in the world and it's even more impressive for featuring the “Marine World” attraction, which is located atop the headland of Nam Long Shan Mountain.

To get to the Marine World section you have to take a cool cable car to reach it and once there you’ll feel truly like being on a whole different world (no pun intended!).

Marine World is really and truly a fantastic place to be. Among other things, you’ll get to see rare species of rays such as Blotched fantail ray, dozens of sea jellies species, and other marine life endemic to China such as Chinese Sturgeon and Chinese high fin banded shark. If the variety of marine life at Marine World wasn’t enough, the aquarium also offers world-class dolphin and sea-lion shows on an outdoor ocean theater.

Admission price is $36 for adults and $18 for kids but if you’re planning to see more attractions in Hong Kong, you’ll want to purchase the “See Hong Kong Pass i-Venture Card”. The 3-day pass costs roughly $115 for adults and includes 15 of Hong Kong’s top tourist attractions.
