Home to mountain ranges and plains, as well as many national parks, the Republic of Serbia truly boasts an amazing geographical landscape which makes the country such an outdoors enthusiast magnet.

Serbia is definitely one of the top 10 eastern European destinations to visit as it boasts Turkish and Roman influences which give the country such a unique and historic flavor. These influences translate today in delicious cuisine, amazing architecture and interesting attractions such as the National Museum, home to the Miroslav Gospel, which is the oldest manuscript written in the Cyrillic Alphabet.

Serbia truly boasts many interesting museums and art galleries, and it’s also filled with fun events all year-round such as the EXIT Festival, which is one of the most popular summer music events in Serbia. There are literary hundreds of places to visit, things to do and see in Serbia to list them all here, so I’ll share with you some of the attractions I enjoyed visiting:

Belgrade

The capital city of Belgrade is one of the best places to start your vacation in Serbia because of the many attractions and things to do such as visiting Kalemegdan fortress (pictured).

Kalemegdan fortress and park is one of the most interesting places to visit in Serbia, and it’s the oldest settlement and one of the biggest attractions in the country.

You’ll literary need a whole day if you want to explore and see every attraction that the fortress complex has to offer.

Apart from marveling at the fortress and walking along the beautiful promenades within the fortress, you can do many other things such as visiting the zoo, the military museum, the museum of natural science and the Observatory and Planetarium.

A visit to Belgrade wouldn't be complete without exploring Belgrade’s beautiful squares such as Slavija Square, and beautiful districts such as Knez Mihajlova Street and Krunka Street where you’ll find the Temple of Saint Sava and Nikola Tesla Museum.

A few of my favorite places along Knez Mihajlova Street are:

- Srpska Kruna Hotel
- Marko Stojanovic’s house
- The Statue Of Prince Mihailo Obrenovic
- The Natinal Museum
- The National Theater and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Novi Sad

The city of Novi Sad is located north of Belgrade and it’s also home to some of the most interesting places to visit in Serbia, hands down!

One of them, it’s the imposing Petrovaradin Fortress where the popular EXIT music festival is actually held.

The fortress is surrounded by beautiful scenery with lovely views of the Danube River, as well as other interesting attractions such as the Museum of Natural Science, the underground tunnels and the Clock Tower which is a popular tourist attraction.

Another interesting thing to do in Novi Sad it’s taking a walking tour of the city center to soak in the beautiful sights and stunning façades.

Places to look out for in the center of Novi Sad include the Republic Square and the beautiful Novi Sad Cathedral Square, and Dunavski Park where you can unwind after a lond day of touring the city’s attractions.

Novi Sad’s city center also overlooks the beautiful Danube River, and walking along the Danube River promenade is a marvelous way to soak in the spectacular views.

Nis

Located in southern Serbia, Nis is one of the largest cities in the country and home to the University of Nis which gives the city such a vibrant vibe.

Nis boasts beautiful tourist sites with some of the most interesting places to visit in Serbia being located here such as the Skull Tower, which is literary built with the skulls of Serbian rebels during their up rise against the Ottoman Empire.

The Nis fortress which is one of the most peculiar and interesting fortresses in Serbia, s it's boasts an old Turkish bath as well as Roman sculptures.

While in Nis, you also want to enjoy a walking tour of the city center to marvel at the architecture and Orthodox churches such as Nis Cathedral and Emperor Constantine Church.

Davolja Varos

Davolja Varos literary translated in English means Devil’s Town, and it is another of the interesting places to visit in Serbia, as it’s one of the most stunning natural rock formations that you’ll ever come across Europe.

Davolja Varos are tall and peculiar rock formations over 10 meters tall located on the Radan Mountains.

If you’re basing your holiday in Leskovac and are looking for interesting day trips from Leskovac, these amazing rock formations are only 25 minutes drive from Leskovac.

The city of Sochi Russia is located in the eastern coast of the Black Sea, right opposite other popular Black Sea tourist destinations such as Constanta Romania, Odessa Ukraine, Trabzon Turkey and Varna Bulgaria.

In fact, Sochi's location on the Black Sea coast makes it one of the top eastern European cities to visit, and one of the top ten vacation spots in Europe. Sochi Russia is also known as popular hang out for the rich and famous, and it’s in par with other glamorous cities such as Dubrovnik Croatia, Mykonos Greece, Sao Paulo Brazil, and Goa India.

Another incentive that draws a lot of travelers to the region, it’s that Sochi Russia boasts natural mineral springs, making Sochi resorts some of the best health-spa resorts in the world.


Best Time to Visit

If you’re wondering what the weather is like all year-round in Sochi Russia, Sochi's weather is similar to Mediterranean beach spots such as Nice France, as weather rarely gets too hot nor freezing cold.

The Sochi summer season actually runs from May to October and it is one of the most popular times to visit the city because of the warm summer temperatures (average 28 °C), and amount of flights available.

Flying to Sochi Russia

Sochi Russia is serviced by the Adler-Sochi Airport which is located 12 miles south of Sochi Russia.

At the moment cheap direct flights to Sochi Russia are hard to come by for visitors flying outside of Russia. Therefore, one of the most cost-effective ways to get to Sochi Russia, it’s to fly through Moscow and then get a connecting flight to Sochi Russia, which takes around 3 hours.

Adler-Sochi Airport Transportation

Once you land on Sochi Airport, there are airport taxis, buses and shuttle services from/ to Sochi City Centre.

Outdoor Activities: beach activities, tea plantations and mountain excursions

Whether you travel during the summer months or winter months, Sochi Russia offers a variety of things to do.

For instance, in the winter months, the nearby Caucasus Mountains offer a range of activities like cross country skiing and snowboarding.

During the warmer months, the golden shores of Sochi Russia are the perfect getaway for a beach vacation and enjoying activities like snorkeling and sailing.

However, apart from beach activities, some of the popular things to do in Sochi Russia
include outdoor activities like mountain biking, climbing and caving.

If fact, for climbing and biking opportunities, you can head to Mt. Elbrus which is not far from Sochi Russia.

You can also add a trekking tour to the Caucasus Mountains and explore the beautiful mountain meadows and majestic waterfalls.

Visiting a tea plantation is one of the top things to do in Sochi Russia and another must-add on your itinerary when visiting the region.

Dagomys Tea Plantation is only 6 miles from Sochi, and during the tour you get to learn how to make proper tea and sample fine Russian tea.

Sochi Botanical Gardens

If you love fauna and flora, or simply want to take a relaxing stroll, you should not miss out visiting the Sochi Botanical Gardens, located in Khostinsky City District.

The gardens are open all year-round, and it’s a great place to see wildlife like swans, ducks, peacocks, African ostriches, as well as many different species of oak, cypress and palm trees.

Adler Trout Farm Tour

The Adler Trout Farm is the largest trout fishery in Europe, and it's home to the Caucasian trout, which is quite a delicacy in this region.

The trout farm is actually located in the Adlersky district, but you can book a tour from Sochi’s city center.

The tour typically includes a visit around the trout farm, followed by a lunch that includes tasty trout dishes.

City Center Walking Tour

Taking a walking tour is the best way to explore Central Sochi’s main cultural attractions and landmarks. A few highlights of the city center include:

- Michael Archangel Cathedral
- Archangel Column
- Sochi Art Museum
- Sochi’s Winter Theater
- Sochi’s Railway Station
- Sochi’s Sea Port
- Statue of Neptune

Trabzon Day Trip

If you've got time, you can also a day trip to the north coast of Turkey. For instance, you can get a ferry boat from Sochi to Trabzon Turkey, which costs around 100 Euros.

Ferry services normally leave Sochi in the morning and you'll be arriving in the evening. Also, the ferries are normally on a first come first served basis so be sure to book the ferry in advance.

Nightlife & Entertainment

Exploring the night scene is one of the top things to do in Sochi Russia, especially with such a vibrant and magnetic atmosphere.

Sochi is a popular clubbing destination drawing a younger crowd, so you’ll find many discos playing anything from techno-dance to rock ‘n’ roll.

However, Sochi is also home to sophisticated bars and outdoor cafes where you can enjoy a more relaxed night out.

Events & Festivals

If you’re planning to visit the city during the summer months, one of the most popular things to do in Sochi Russia in June it’s to attend the popular Kinotavr international film festival, which is a great place to see some of Russia’s notables.

Traveling to Tirana Albania

One of the advantages about traveling to Tirana Albania it’s that citizens such as US citizens, Australians and Canadians don’t require a visa. In fact, one of the few requirements to get into the country it’s the entry and departure tax which comes down to around 20 Euros.

Booking flights to Tirana Airport

Tirana Airport (Rinas International Airport) is actually serviced by quite a few popular airlines like Virgin Travel, British Airways and Albanian Airlines, which offer charter flights during the summer season.

If you’re looking at booking a flight to the city of Tirana Albania, you’ll be landing at Rinas International Airport, the only airport in Albania. The airport is actually located just 9 miles from Tirana's city center (around 20 minutes by car).

Rinas International Airport has many modern amenities like free wireless internet, duty-free shops, restaurants and banks where you can exchange some money.

Getting to Tirana

Once you land at the airport, you have three transportation options to get to Tirana's city center:

- Airport Taxis. Which are yellow in color and cost around $15 (17 Euros) for a ride to the city center.

- Car Rental. There are around four car rental companies at the airport which include Europcar and Avis car rental.

- Buses. Buses run hourly to and from the airport and it is the most affordable way to get to the city center costing around $2 (4 Euros).

Things to do in Tirana Albania: Outdoor Activities

One of the most popular things to do in Tirana Albania it’s to explore the nearby Dajti National Park, as well as exploring nearby towns like Durres and Kruje where you can visit the Skenderbeg Museum.

Dajti National Park

Dajti National Park is an excellent place to hike and explore wildlife while enjoying some animal spotting.

The park has also many amenities like recreational areas, restaurants, cabin accommodation rental and picnic areas, which makes an ideal place for spending a couple of days close to nature.

When visiting Dajti National Park, you also don’t want to miss riding the popular Dajti Car Cable for amazing panoramic views.

Day Trip

Adding a day trip to your itinerary is something else worth considering. One of the most popular day trips from Tirana Albania, it’s to ferry out of Durres to southern Italy.

Durres Albania is just 15 miles for Tirana’s city center and can be reached either by car (around 35 minutes) or by train.

For instance, from Durres you could ferry out to nearby Bari Italy, Brindisi Italy or Manfredonia Italy.

Skenderbeg Square

The main focal point in the city it’s Skenderbeg Square which surrounds many of the city’s attractions. In the center of the square, you’ll also see Albania’s National hero Skenderbeg.

Et'hem Bey Mosque

The Et'hem Bey Mosque, located opposite the Municipality of Tirana, was constructed in the 18th century and it is a lovely example of Islamic architecture in the country.

Tirana National Museum

If you’re interested in history, the Tirana National Museum (Kombetar Museum) can easily be the highlight of your trip here.

The museum features around eight rooms with different exhibits such as a Middle-Ages room where you can see ancient artifacts like weapons, gold coins and documents.

Municipality of Tirana

If you’re visiting the city for the first time, a visit to the Municipality of Tirana (Bashkia e Tiranes) is one of the best things to do in Tirana Albania.

It acts as a visitor center, and you’ll be able to find out more information about the city, events, etc.

Outside of Tirana Albania

Petrela Castle

Petrela Castle is located just 5 miles (10 minutes drive) south of Tirana Albania, near Petrele. The castle used to be a fortified castle in the 13th century but have been now turned into a lovely restaurant.

Apart fro enjoying a nice meal, you can take amazing panoramic pictures from the castle and the castle itself, so it’s worth the visit.

Konti Castle

Konti Castle is located 5 miles northwest of Tirana’s city center, nearby Kristal University (10 minutes drive), and has been turned into a luxury hotel.

Whether you book yourself at the hotel or not, Castle Konti hotel makes for a wonderful picture-taking opportunity.

Things to do in Tirana Albania: Shopping

If you love retail shopping, there are plenty of shopping opportunities at the city’s shopping centers.

For instance, in the city center you have Galeria Mall and Casa Italia featuring a range of mid-size shops.

QTU and City Park shopping centers offer a better range of shops that include supermarkets. They are located outside of Tirana’s city center, along Tirana-Durres highway (around 10 minutes drive).

If you’re looking to grab a bargain, head to one of the city’s open-air markets like the popular Turkish Market.

The Turkish Market sells many leather goods like bags, jackets and shoes as well as electronics and that kind of thing.

Things to do in Tirana Albania: Nightlife & Entertainment

You’ll be glad to know that Tirana Albania has a lively night scene with discos and bars offering live entertainment like karaoke nights.

One popular street where you can find bars and restaurants is along Rruga Ded Gjo Luli.

Entertainment-wise, there are cinemas, and a couple of theaters near Skenderbeg Square. For instance, the Puppet Theater which features children’s shows, while the National Theater is a great place to catch interesting shows like dramas and musicals.
