Interesting places to visit in Rhode Island
Beautiful Places to visit in New England
Wedged between Massachusetts and Connecticut to the west, Rhode Island biggest claim seems to be the fact that it is the smallest state in the United States.

However, you’d be surprised to learn that even though Rhode Island may look small, it's actually one of the top summer vacation spots in New England as it boasts places such as Block Island, which draws thousands of travelers every summer.

Apart from water activities and outdoor activities such as hiking and wildlife spotting in one of Rhode Island’s many green areas, there are hundreds of interesting places that you can visit during your vacation. Here it is a list of some of my interesting places to visit in Rhode Island:

North Kingstown

First off on my list of interesting places to visit in Rhode Island it’s the town of North Kingstown because of the amount of historic places the town boasts such as the Old Narragansett Church which is the oldest church built in New England.

Apart from the architecture, if you are interested in military planes, North Kingstown boast an old air base turned museum which displays military aircrafts.

While in the area, you may also want to visit the Seabee Museum and can see the famed Quonset hut and learn about the history of the Seebees.

Block Island

As I mentioned earlier, Block Island is the biggest summer destination in the state hands down. Even, if you don't stay in Block Island, the island is a great destination for a day trip as it is just a short ferry ride from Galilee.

Block Island is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Rhode Island because of the stunning natural attractions such as the Mohegan Bluffs, nature trails, and beaches overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Block Island is really an amazing place that you wouldn’t want to miss exploring if you’re in Rhode Island because you can enjoy anything from water sport such as boating tours, surfing and parasailing to wildlife spotting.

Also, don’t forget checking out Southeast Lighthouse to get some awesome views of the ocean and the actual bluffs.

Providence

Downtown Providence is one of the best places to enjoy a walking tour of Rhode Island and marvel at beautiful period architecture.

I added Providence RI to my list of interesting places to visit in Rhode Island, not only because the entire downtown area of Providence is on the National Register of Historic Places, but also because of attractions such as the Roger Williams Botanical Center and "Waterfire".

Waterfire is truly an event like no other, and it is more surreal when you’re riding along Providence River on an original Venetian gondola.

Bristol

Bristol is another destination that you definitely want to add to your Rhode Island itinerary, especially if you’re based in Providence RI, as Bristol RI is only half a hour drive south of the capital.

Bristol is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Rhode Island because of the amazing collection of Herreshoff boats collection and beautiful 18th century mansions and houses.

If you’re really interested in learning more about Bristol period houses, I suggest booking a tour with the Bristol RI Historical & Preservation Society to make the most out of your visit in Bristol RI.

Newport

Newport is one of best places in Rhode Island to explore an 18th century seaport. The town boasts a wealth of history and unique Gilded Age mansions such as Marble House.

Apart from the architecture and history, Newport is also on my list of interesting places to visit because of the stunning Fort Adams and Cliff Walk.

Cliff Walk is a 4-mile paved trail that runs along the shoreline providing amazing ocean views and wildlife spotting, while Fort Adams is just breathtaking.

If you’ve been to other forts in the states such as Fort Gaines in Alabama, Fort Adams is the biggest confederate fort in the states and you’ll be blown away by its size and amazing views of the bay and Narragansett.

Tiverton

Tiverton is on my list of interesting places to visit in Rhode Island because of Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge which is one of the best places to see fall foliage in the state, especially if you want to enjoy the fall foliage without the crowds.

The refuge boasts many hiking trails that will give you the opportunity, not only to experience the fall colors, but also the wildlife.
