Beautiful Places to visit in New England

Maine is one of the hidden gems along the east coast, and  home to some of the best summer vacation spots in New England and some of the best beaches in southern Maine

A vacation to Maine means sampling delicious lobsters, visiting post medieval English towns, enjoying hiking, fun sailing tours along the bays, and relaxing by the beach such as in places like Ogunquit Maine.

There are hundreds of interesting places to visit in Maine, so I am sharing with you some of my favorite places that you wouldn't want to miss:

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is, without a doubt, one if the top attractions and one of the most interesting places to visit in Maine because of the unrivaled beautiful and amazing scenery.

If you love nature and want to enjoy some fun activities, you can enjoy anything from hiking, picture taking, blueberry picking to tours along Acadia National Park with a knowledgeable guide.

No matter what you do at Acadia Park, one place you wouldn’t want to miss, though, it is Otter Point (Otter Cliff) to get some of the most stunning coastline views!

Portland

Portland is one of the biggest cities in Maine, yet it still retains a small town feel, very characteristic of New England cities.

Portland is one of the touristiest places in Maine for sure, but a trip to Maine wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Portland.

Portland is on my list of interesting places to visit in Maine because of the many lighthouses scattered along the city’s coastline such as Portland Head Light, located in Fort Williams Park.

If you’re visiting Maine with the intention of exploring the lighthouses, Portland Head Light is one of the best places to do this because the light is now turned in the museum, and the area around offers stunning views of the bay.

Apart from exploring the lighthouses in Portland, you can enjoy a ferry tour of the beautiful Casco Bay Islands.

Maine Leaf-Peeping

If you are leaf-peeping aficionado, the state of Maine is one of the best places to see fall foliage in New England.

There are plenty of state parks offering the opportunity to relish the beautiful fall colors, and you can also enjoy leaf-peeping driving tours to take in the sights as well.

Baxter State Park is one of the most popular spots to see the fall color change in northern Maine, hands down.

However, two of my favorite spots to see the fall color change are Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and Ferry Beach State Park because of their close proximity to Portland Maine.

Rockport Harbor

Rockport Harbor offers great views and many opportunities for a fun sailing trip around the bay.

However, I added Rockport Harbor to my list of interesting places to visit in Maine because of Andre the Seal Statue.

If, like me, you never got to meet Andre the Seal but are a fan of "Andre the movie", you can visit the memorial at Rockport Marine Park.

Baxter State Park

Baxter State Park is another of the interesting places to visit in Maine because of the stunning views you can get from Mount Katahdin.

If you enjoy hiking and are looking for fun climbs, Mount Katahdin has many trails that you can take to get to the peak and take in the views.

Unity

Maine is probably one of the best places where you can explore the New England architecture.

Maine’s smaller towns such as the town of Unity offer you the chance to appreciate the early colonial style architecture.

The town boasts dairy farms, white clapboard houses and white-steeple buildings, typical of a 17th century English town.

Top beaches in Massachusetts

Are you looking for places to visit in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts is truly one of the gems on the East Coast of USA and it’s one of the most popular summer vacation spots in New England.

Despite Massachusetts size, there are literary hundreds of wonderful places to visit in Massachusetts to list them all, but I’d list down the places I enjoy and that I think you'll enjoy the most:

Boston

Boston is one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts because of its rich history. The minute you arrive in Boston, you can tell how historic the city is by looking at the buildings.

The University of Harvard is one of the best places to notice Boston historic feel. You can wander around the campus, which is massive and explore various sites such as Massachusetts Hall, John Harvard Statue and Harry Widner Memorial Library.

If you follow Boston Freedom Trail from Boston Common, you’ll go past some of the most famed buildings in the city such us Massachusetts State House, Old South Meeting and Faneuil Hall and Marketplace.

Apart from exploring the historic downtown area of the city, you can also enjoy whale-watching in Boston if you travel here between December and March.

Plymouth

The town of Plymouth is a very charming place with plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, and you could definitely plan a fun day out here.

Plimoth Plantation is one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts, and this place is a true living museum and a fun place to take the whole family out.

Plimoth Plantation is an educational but fun place where you can learn how life would’ve been like for the early settlers. The plantation also has many exhibits and activities to watch and participate in.

When you visit the plantation, you also have access to the famous Mayflower II site, where you can enjoy live demos on tying knots, and at the end you get to go onboard of the magnificent ship.

While in Plymouth, you should also check out Plymouth Rock, which marks the spot where the first settlers set foot.

Northampton

Northampton should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Massachusetts, as it is one of the few places to taste "the real America". The town has a relaxed, friendly and calmed vibe that reminds you very much of Vermont.

The locals are friendly and you’ll feel right at home here. Northampton has lovely cafes, restaurants, beautiful scenery and the main shopping mall is a great place to enjoy a fun and hassle-free shopping time.

Northampton is also a great place for leaf-peepers and it's one of the best destinations in November. However, if you come here in September you’ll get to see the leaf color change and appreciate why Massachusetts is one of the best places to see fall foliage.

Cape Cod

Cape Cod is renowned for being home to some of the best family beaches on east coast. Cape Cod is one of the top paces to vacation with kids, and during the summer months this places is filled with families looking to enjoy a well deserved summer vacation.

If you’re looking for fun things to do with the family in Cape Cod, you’d love exploring the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore.

Top 10 attractions in Cape Cod

National Seashore has many hiking trails, some of the best beaches in the US, picnic areas, and it’s a great place to enjoy spotting all kinds of birds like ducks, swans and seagulls.

Cape Cod is also one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts because of the lovely islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.


For instance, in Nantucket you can explore the wonderful whaling museum and learn more about the whaling trade, from harpoons to other tools used in the trade.

Top beaches in Massachusetts

The city of Boston Massachusetts, also known as Beantown, is one of the most popular cities in New England and also the largest in the region.

If you are traveling to Beantown for the first time and you are looking for fun things to do in Boston, the city is home to many attractions such as the Museum of Science, Freedom Trail, Boston whale watching and popular festivals such as the Boston Jazz Festival.

Fun Things to do in Boston: Outdoor Activities

There are plenty of things to do in Boston in the outdoors all year-round to keep you busy.


* If you are looking to enjoy water activities, picnicking and camping, the Harbor Islands national park is a beautiful place where you can soak in natural beauty and explore the wildlife.

* If you are into water sports, Cochituate State Park is a popular park home to three lakes where you can enjoy boating and windsurfing.

Summer and Autumn

* In the summer months, Revere Beach is home to fun events such as the New England Sand Sculpting Invitational and concerts on the beach.

* In the autumn months, the city of Boston is a great place to be and admire the gorgeous fall foliage.

Places such as Boston Common and the Public Garden, located in the center of Boston, are two popular places to experience Boston’s fall foliage without having to go to other parts of New England.

Fun Things to do in Boston: Cultural Attractions

Museums

* Blue Hills Trail side Museum, located on Canton Avenue, is home to indoor and outdoor exhibits where you can explore native wildlife.

* Boston Children's Museum is home to interactive exhibits on early childhood development such as the New Balance Climb, Science Playground and Hall of Toys.

* Museum of Science is a fascinating place that features exhibits on science and the popular 3-dimensional film ‘Catch Bugs!’.

Festivals

* The Boston Jazz Festival, held in late September, is one of the most popular festivals in New England that brings together local and global artists.

* Boston Wine Festival, held at the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf, is a great place to see rare types of wine and enjoy some lovely dinners and tastings.

* Great Boston Kite Festival, held in mid-May at Franklin Park, is one of the most popular fun things to do in Boston where the whole family can enjoy a fun day out.

Fun Things to do in Boston: Nightlife

If you are looking to enjoy a fun night out in Boston, Lansdowne Street and Kenmore Square are home to a variety of bars and nightclubs all within close distance of each other.

Two of the most popular nightclubs include Axis and Avalon. If you are looking for somewhere to lounge Bill's Bar and Lounge is a great place to be.

A popular place to enjoy live music is the MaMa Kin.

Fun Things to do in Boston: Shopping

Boston’s shopping scene is home to a variety of outlets which include:

* Newbury Street is home to specialty shops and boutiques.

* Filene's Basement is a great outlet where you can get last seasons’ fashion at the fraction of their retail price.

* Downtown Crossing is home to department stores.
