The town of Norman is just half hour drive south of Oklahoma City and it’s a top destination worth adding to the list of interesting places to visit in Oklahoma because of the huge dinosaur Skeleton on display at Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History.

A trip to Oklahoma wouldn’t be complete without visiting and exploring Tulsa’s lovely Art Deco buildings and many museums such as the Philbrook Museum of Art and the Gilcrease Museum where you can to learn about American art and history.

If you’re limited on time when visiting Tulsa, I’d suggest booking one of the Art Deco tours in town to make the most of your visit in Tulsa OK.

Apart from the architecture, beautiful streets and cultural attractions, Tulsa is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Oklahoma because of the gigantic statue of an oil worker called the Golden Driller. You have to see it to believe it!

Muskogee

Muskogee is just an hour’s drive southeast of Tulsa and a great location to base your vacation in Oklahoma as it isn’t too far Oklahoma City either.

Muskogee is also on my list of interesting places to visit because of Fort Gibson Historic Site and Fort Gibson National Cemetery nearby.

The fort itself makes for a very interesting tour, especially if you haven’t been in a fort before, and see a reconstructed log stockade, magazine and barracks.

Checotah

The town of Checotah is another of the interesting places to visit in Oklahoma as it was one the scene of the bloody Civil War battle – the Honey Springs Battlefield.

If you’re a Civil War enthusiast, you’d love walking around the Interpretive Trails and reading the information markers scattered along the trails

Oklahoma’s Route 66

If you’re in the state for the first time, one of the most interesting places to visit in Oklahoma that wouldn’t want to miss, it’s driving along the famed Oklahoma’s Route 66, which is now designated as Interstate 44.

The actual drive along Oklahoma’s Route 66 would take you a couple of days to complete, although you don't have to do the complete route to get a filled of Route 66's historical significance.

If you’re looking for cool places to see in southern US that offers a range of fun activities and interesting places to visit, Alabama will certainly not disappoint you.

Alabama offers so many things to do and see that you’re simply spoiled for choice. You can enjoy outdoor activities at one of the many state parks, enjoy a beach vacation in the Gulf Coast or explore Alabama’s historic towns and cities.

To give you an idea of what to places to visit in the state, here it is a list of interesting places to visit in Alabama worth adding to your itinerary.

Huntsville

The town of Huntsville is truly blesses with lovely surroundings, and being so close to Tennessee; it really is a great place to base your vacation in Alabama.

Hunstville is on my list of interesting places to visit in Alabama because of the museums, historical buildings and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

If you’re interested in science and a space rockets, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is one of the coolest things to do in Huntsville with the family. The Space Center boasts really cool exhibits on space rocket technology as well as interactive movies.

While in Huntsville, a few other places you do want to explore are the Huntsville Depot Museum, the Railroad Museum and the lovely Burritt Mansion which is now walk in museum.

Birmingham

Birmingham is located in the heart of Alabama, and a trip to the state wouldn’t be complete without exploring this vibrant and historic city.

Downtown Birmingham is certainly one of the most interesting places to visit in Alabama because it was on this district where the American Civil Rights Movement took place.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll find the historic tours of the downtown area interesting and quite educational.

The city also boasts plenty of other cultural attractions like antebellum homes, a science center and the Jazz Hall of Fame.

If you're traveling to Birmingham on a day trip, I would suggest heading first to Vulcan Park because it serves as the city's Visitor Center.

By the way, Vulcan Park is home to “Vulcan” which is the largest cast iron statue in the world and second largest statue in the states after “Lady Liberty” in New York.

Alabama Caverns

If you’re looking for fun outdoor attractions, the state’s caverns are some of the most interesting places to visit in Alabama because they offer a nice little break from the city crowds.

Three great caverns that you can check out, not far from each other, are Russell Cave National Monument (right on the Alabama-Tennessee border), Sequoyah Caverns and Cathedral Caverns, which are all located northeast of Alabama.

Having said this, Sequoyah Caverns and Cathedral Caverns are two of my favorites because the caverns are quite impressive and feature underground waterfalls and odd looking fossils.

Apart from this, the caverns are located within a recreational area with campgrounds, which is a plus if you want to spend a few days in the area.

Talladega National Forest

Talladega National Forest is a popular place to explore on a backpacking trip because of the amazing Cheaha Mountains.

During the autumn the forest is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Alabama, and enjoying a leaf-peeping tour.

The Talladega Forest has many scenic byways that you can drive along taking in the beautiful fall colors.

Gulf Coast

Mobile is Alabama’s getaway to the Gulf Coast and a great place to base your vacation, as it's not too far from vacation spots like Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island and Orange Beach.

Apart from the beautiful beaches and its close proximity to Florida, I added the Gulf Coast to my list of interesting places to visit in Alabama because of the many confederate forts built here to protect Mobile Bay.

The main three ports are:

-Fort Conde in Mobile AL
-Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores AL
-Fort Gaines in Dauphin Island AL

My favourite one, though, it is the one located in Dauphin Island because it was the main confederate fort guarding Mobile Bay.

You can get lovely views from the fort top floors, and explore the fort’s many bastions and areas like the bakery room, a blacksmith shop, officer’s quarters and cannons

Selma & Montgomery

Selma and Montgomery are two other interesting places to visit in Alabama that I would recommend visiting, apart from Birmingham, because of their historic significance in Alabama’s history.

Selma marked the beginning of three of the famous Civil Rights marches to the city of Montgomery.

The town of Selma, itself, has many interesting attractions like the Slavery & Civil War Museum and the Old Depot Museum that you can check out.

Interesting places to visit in Kentucky

When thinking of Kentucky, you think of rolling farms, bluegrass music and rural towns, and you wouldn't wrong.

Interesting places to visit in Kentucky

However, you’ll be glad to know that state is more than country land and the state boasts some of the best vacation spots in southern USA.

They’re plenty of cultural attractions to enjoy and interesting places to visit in Kentucky like exploring the Country Music Highway which is home to many country music stars, the Kentucky Opry and the Paramount Theater. Here it is a round-up of the places I like the most in the Bluegrass State:

Louisville

Staring off first on my list of interesting places to visit in Kentucky has to be the city of Louisville.

If you’re traveling to Kentucky, the city of Louisville is, without a doubt, a great starting point to your vacation in the state, especially if you travel during one of the major events such as “Thunder Over Louisville” festival.

The “Thunder Over Louisville” festival happens in April, and you’ll be absolutely blown away by the fireworks and the air show events.

Another reason why Louisville KY has to be one of the most interesting places to visit in Kentucky is because of its historic districts such as West Main District.

You can enjoy a historic tour of West Main District marveling at the lovely cast iron facades and visiting the many museums contained within the district.

Mammoth Cave National Park

The state of Kentucky boasts many caverns, and taking a cave tour is definitely something I would add to the list of fun things to do in Kentucky.

Mammoth Cave National Park is on my list of interesting places to visit in Kentucky because the tours are the cave area suited to different people and different ages, so everyone can have a fun tour regardless of their size.

Apart from the cave tour, which kids will surely love, Mammoth Cave National Park, itself, is a great place to enjoy a fun family outdoor activities while enjoying the pristine natural scenery.

Lexington

Lexington Kentucky is famously known as the ‘Horse Capital of the World’ because of the amount of Horse Farms and thoroughbreds.

If you love everything equestrian, you’ll enjoy the horse farm tours and attending a racing event at the popular Keenland Race Course.

Daniel Boone National Forest

If you are traveling to Kentucky during the autumn, Daniel Boone National Forest has to be one of the most interesting places to visit in Kentucky because of the lovely fall colors.

Daniel Boone National Forest fall colors are at their peak in October, so this is best time to enjoy a leaf-peeping tour in the forest.

One of the best places to see fall foliage, for me, has to be Cumberland Falls State Resort Park because of the majestic waterfall.

Covington

Downtown Covington KY is a charming little town right on the Kentucky-Ohio border and only 6 miles away from Cincinnati.

Covington KY is actually separated from Cincinnati Ohio by the Ohio River and the riverfront is such as lovely place to be taking in the views. I added Covington KY to my list of interesting places to visit in Kentucky for a few reasons.

First, the town of Covington has such a diferent vibe from the rest of the state because of its trendy bars and hotels.

Second, Covington KY is home to one of the top landmarks in the state - the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge (over 100 years old!), which resembles the bridge built in Brooklyn New York.

Newport

Newport KY is literary a\half hour walk from Covington KY, and it is another of my interesting places to visit in Kentucky because of the many Cruise companies.

With a riverboat cruise, you can get a chance to explore the historic waterway and its quaint towns as well as enjoying lovely views of Cincinnati from the comfort of a boat!

Interesting places to visit in Ohio

Things to do in the Midwest
Planning a trip this year to Ohio, and want to know about interesting places to visit in Ohio that you wouldn’t want to miss?

In a nutshell, Ohio is stunning state with lovely countryside scenery, rich history, beautiful architecture, wealth of historic sites and friendly locals.

Ohio is one of the best vacation spots in the Midwest for taking historic tours, and exploring this state will leave you with lovely lasting memories.

Put-in-Bay

First on my list of interesting places to visit in Ohio is the small island of Put-in-Bay where you’ll find the Perry Monument. I added this place on my list because of the interesting history behind this landmark.

You can climb to the top of the monument and get nice views of Put-in-Bay town and the bay.

By the way, Put-in-Bay is easily reached by ferry from Sandusky in less than 50 minutes, and the trip here is overall worth it because of the charming little town.

Sandusky

The city of Sandusky is one of the little gems in Ohio, with a rich history and beautiful historical buildings.

Sandusky is, roughly, the half way point between Toledo Ohio and Cleveland OH, and it is one place you should really add to your Ohio itinerary. I added Sandusky to the list of interesting places to visit in Ohio for a couple reasons.
Places to go in Ohio
First, if you’re taking a walking tour of the city, you’ll notice that the manhole covers in the city are beautifully decorated, which can be easily mistaken for ancient Mayan calendar stones! Second, Sandusky is home to Cedar Point Amusement Park which has to be one of the best amusement parks in the states. The coasters are awesome and the park is truly a thrill seekers paradise.

Berlin

If you’re looking for the most interesting places to visit in Ohio, the Amish Mennonite Heritage Center in Berlin Ohio comes close to the top. Just like the Illinois’ Amish Country, the Amish Mennonite Heritage Center is a great place to see a way of life, forgotten by most of us.

If you’ve always wanted to learn about the Amish, the center offers tours and interesting videos.

Cincinnati & Milan

Ohio is certainly home to many historic homes – many of them turned into museums now. Cincinnati & Milan are perhaps two of the most interesting places to visit in Ohio for a history tour.

A few of the places to check out in Cincinnati include: Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Taft Museum Of Art and William Howard Taft National Historic Site. While in Milan, you can check out Edison Birthplace, which is now a museum, and the Milan Historical Museum.

Dayton

A visit to Ohio wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park, in Dayton OH. The park is truly one of the most interesting places to visit in Ohio because of the interpretive centers where you can learn more about the men who invented the first practical air plane, and how they envision the idea.

Chillicothe

I added Chillicothe to my list of interesting places to visit in Ohio because of the Indian Mounds found here.

Also, if you’re in the city of Columbus OH, the town of Chillicothe is just under an hour’s drive south of Columbus so, you can easily add this place on the list of fun things to do in Columbus Ohio. The actual Indian Mounds are found at the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park where you can take a tour and learn more about the Hopewell.

Hocking State Forest

If you are traveling to Ohio in late October, or are planning a vacation in November, you should not miss experiencing the beautiful color change in the state. Normally, the last week of October and early November is when the foliage colors are at their peak.

Ohio is actually one of the best places to see fall foliage because most of its state parks have a watchtower you can climb up such as the one in Hocking Hills State Park, in Logan.

Portsmouth

The small town feel of Portsmouth OH is another of my interesting places to visit in Ohio, simply because of the beautiful Floodwall Murals.

The murals are painted on a 2,000 feet long wall along Front Street, and are simply ‘stunning’, also colorful and so intricately detailed that you’ll be blown away by them. If you do visit the Floodwall Murals, don’t forget your camera!

Interesting places to visit in Indiana

Looking for Interesting places to visit in Indiana this year?

Indiana is at the heart of America and it's one of the most popular vacation spots in the Midwest hands down! Indiana is indeed a rural state, but you’d be surprised to know that Indiana boasts many fun events, plenty of historic landmarks and some of the best Beaches on Lake Michigan.

Indiana state parks are some of the best places to see fall foliage in early autumn.

To give you an idea of what to see, we've compiled a list of interesting places to visit in Indiana that you'll sure enjoy visiting:

Indianapolis

Indianapolis has some of the most interesting places to visit in Indiana hands down, and a visit to the state wouldn’t be complete without visiting this vibrant metropolis. There are many Indianapolis fun things to do, so if you’re visiting Indianapolis only for a few days, I would recommend booking a tour of some kind to get the most out of your visit.

Four of my favorite attractions in Indianapolis IN are the James Whitcomb Riley Museum, Indianapolis Speedway, Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum and Union Station.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

If you’re looking for interesting places to visit in Indiana, you can’t afford to miss Mount Baldy sand dune at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Mount Baldy sand dune stands at 126 feet high and it is the largest moving sand dune within Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

You can climb to the top of the sand dune to get lovely views of Lake Michigan, but the best part of the climb is sliding down the slopes!

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is also one of the top places to vacation with kids in Indiana because of the many fun things you can do like swimming and dune hiking.

Another plus point about vacationing at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is that the park is just an hour’s drive from downtown Chicago attractions.

Montgomery

In the town of Montgomery, you’ll find one of the most interesting places to visit in Indiana for sure– the Gasthof Amish Village.

Gasthof Amish Village is the gateway to Southern Indiana's Amish Country, and if you haven’t been to an Amish community before, you’d love their traditional way of living.

Amongst many things, the Amish live a very humble life so you won’t find modern amenities like TV's and that kinda of thing.

Bloomington

Being home to the University of Indiana, the city of Bloomington has a nice international vibe with plenty of fun festivals like music, art and beer festivals.

If you can, you should add a day trip to Bloomington and experience the ‘Big City’- ‘Small Town’ feel that the city boasts.

Apart from the great ambiance, I added Bloomington to the list of interesting places to visit in Indiana because of the Tibetan Cultural Center (I mean, where else can you see traditional Tibetan monks!)

New Harmony

Indiana has its fair share of quaint and historical towns, and if you are a history buff, you’d love visiting New Harmony.

New Harmony is on my list of interesting places to visit in Indiana because the town is essentially a living museum, as it features over ten historic sites and many early 19th century buildings that you can explore on a guided tour.

Fishers

The town is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Indiana because of the amazing Conner Prairie Interactive History Park.

If you’re looking for fun family outdoor activities that are at the same time educational, head to the Conner Prairie Park.

Conner Prairie Park recreates life in the 1800’s with actors in period costumes. It also features an Indian Village and a Farm Homestead that you can stroll freely.

Interesting places to visit in Kansas

Interesting places to visit in Kansas
Things to do in the Midwest
Going on a road trip with the family through Kansas and Missouri and planning on taking in the sights?

For me, Kansas is one of the top places to vacation with kids because of the slow pace of life. If you're wondering about what interesting places to visit  in Kansas, you'll be glad to know that Kansas isn't just farms and small towns. For instance, in places such as Kansas City and Wichita KS, you can enjoy many major events, up-scale shopping and great nightlife.

To give an idea and point you in the right direction, here are some of my most favourite interesting places to visit in Kansas that many enjoy visiting:

Wichita

Two of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas, for me, are the Old Cowtown and the Mid-American All Indian Centre in Wichita Kansas.

Old Cowtown is a very special place and unique open-air museum where you can get a taste of the Old West. This historic town features dirt streets, people dressed in period clothes and restored old buildings. Also, during the summer months, you can see fun re-enactments of a typical day in 1800's Kansas.

At the All Indian Center, you can Native American work such as the popular Blackbear Bosin's "The Keeper of the Plains".

Hutchinson

Hutchinson is another of my favorite interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the Kansas Cosmosphere Center.

At the Cosmosphere Center you can see moon rocks, spy planes and even a full-size replica of the Space Shuttle.

The Cosmosphere is probably the biggest attraction in Kansas, and one place I recommend taking your family. Your kids will love you for it!

Atchison

The small town of Atchison is located right on the Kansas-Missouri border, northwest of Kansas City.

Atchison is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas as it is the birthplace of Amelia Earhart, which was first woman to fly the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia’s house is today a museum open to the public and a great place to see where the aviatrix grew up. Inside the house, you’ll see pictures of Amelia’s husband and grandparents, as well as other items.

Lindsborg

If you’ve never been to Sweden but always wanted to visit, don’t miss visiting the town of Lindsborg (located roughly between Hutchinson and Salina).

This town is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the Swedish style festivals.

Christmas is probably the best time to experience the rich Swedish heritage in Lindsborg. During Christmas time, you have Heritage Christmas where you can enjoy the sounds and sights of a typical Swedish Christmas.

Lucas

Lucas is easily one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the rather odd "Garden of Eden". This place is basically a garden filled with concrete sculptures that represent the American past. If you love ‘unusual’ art work, you’ll find the Garden of Eden very interesting indeed!

Cambridge

If you’re visiting the state this autumn, I would suggest visiting on leaf-peeping trip. Kansas is one of the best places to see fall foliage, and one of the best spots to see the color change is the Flint Hills.

The Flint Hills have no trees, but the grasses turn all sorts of colors from reddish brown to golddish tan, which are quite beautiful.

Wamego

The town of Wamego is roughly located between Manhattan KS and Topeka and it is actually one of my favorite vacation spots in the Midwest.

Wamego is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because is home to the fantastic Oz Museum. If, like me, you’re a fan of the Wizard of Oz musical, the museum has many memorabilia stuff such as silent films.

Dodge City

If you are touring the south of Kansas, a visit to Dodge City should be on your list of interesting places to visit in Kansas. Apart from Cowtown, there is no other city in Kansas that is more synonymous of the American Old West.

In particular, you and your kids will love a visit to Boot Hill Museum, in Dodge City as the place has organized recreational gun fights that are really fun to watch.

Are you looking for places to visit in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts is truly one of the gems on the East Coast of USA and it’s one of the most popular summer vacation spots in New England.

Despite Massachusetts size, there are literary hundreds of wonderful places to visit in Massachusetts to list them all, but I’d list down the places I enjoy and that I think you'll enjoy the most:

Boston

Boston is one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts because of its rich history. The minute you arrive in Boston, you can tell how historic the city is by looking at the buildings.

The University of Harvard is one of the best places to notice Boston historic feel. You can wander around the campus, which is massive and explore various sites such as Massachusetts Hall, John Harvard Statue and Harry Widner Memorial Library.

If you follow Boston Freedom Trail from Boston Common, you’ll go past some of the most famed buildings in the city such us Massachusetts State House, Old South Meeting and Faneuil Hall and Marketplace.

Apart from exploring the historic downtown area of the city, you can also enjoy whale-watching in Boston if you travel here between December and March.

Plymouth

The town of Plymouth is a very charming place with plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, and you could definitely plan a fun day out here.

Plimoth Plantation is one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts, and this place is a true living museum and a fun place to take the whole family out.

Plimoth Plantation is an educational but fun place where you can learn how life would’ve been like for the early settlers. The plantation also has many exhibits and activities to watch and participate in.

When you visit the plantation, you also have access to the famous Mayflower II site, where you can enjoy live demos on tying knots, and at the end you get to go onboard of the magnificent ship.

While in Plymouth, you should also check out Plymouth Rock, which marks the spot where the first settlers set foot.

Northampton

Northampton should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Massachusetts, as it is one of the few places to taste "the real America". The town has a relaxed, friendly and calmed vibe that reminds you very much of Vermont.

The locals are friendly and you’ll feel right at home here. Northampton has lovely cafes, restaurants, beautiful scenery and the main shopping mall is a great place to enjoy a fun and hassle-free shopping time.

Northampton is also a great place for leaf-peepers and it's one of the best destinations in November. However, if you come here in September you’ll get to see the leaf color change and appreciate why Massachusetts is one of the best places to see fall foliage.

Cape Cod

Cape Cod is renowned for being home to some of the best family beaches on east coast. Cape Cod is one of the top paces to vacation with kidsand during the summer months this places is filled with families looking to enjoy a well deserved summer vacation.

If you’re looking for fun things to do with the family in Cape Cod, you’d love exploring the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore.
Top 10 attractions in Cape Cod
National Seashore has many hiking trails, some of the best beaches in the US, picnic areas, and it’s a great place to enjoy spotting all kinds of birds like ducks, swans and seagulls.

Cape Cod is also one of my favorite places to visit in Massachusetts because of the lovely islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

For instance, in Nantucket you can explore the wonderful whaling museum and learn more about the whaling trade, from harpoons to other tools used in the trade.

Places to Visit Along the California Coast

Wondering what places to visit along the California Coast?

Places to Visit Along the California Coast
best places to camp in Northern California
The coast of California spans over 500 miles so there are literary hundreds of great places to visit along the California coast such as Monterey and Long Beach, as well as stunning stretches of coast such as Big Sur where you'll find some of the best beaches in California.

If you’re looking for vacation spots in California, or are planning a road trip along the California coast, allow yourself a few days to properly enjoy the scenic Pacific Ocean views and attractions that the California coast boasts. Most people that take a road trip of the coast of California start in Dana Point (southern California) and finish in Leggett (northern California). There are two popular routes that run along the California Coast that you can drive along: the U.S. Route 101 and California Highway 1.

However, if you’re planning a scenic drive along California coast, California Highway 1 (also known as California State Route 1) is the best route to take, as it literary runs along the coast. One of the most popular sections of the scenic drive along the California coast, it’s between Dana Point, Oxnard and San Francisco, along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Alternatively, you could also drive from Dana Point, Oxnard and San Francisco through Los Angeles if you wish to check out LA’s downtown attractions. If you do decide you want to drive through Los Angeles, take Interstate 5 from Dana Point along Route 101 to get to Oxnard. Also, I would also structure the trip along the California coast in two legs to make it more manageable. If you’re driving between Dana Point, Oxnard and San Francisco along the Pacific Coast Highway, here it is a list of places to visit along the California Coast:

Dana Point - Oxnard (1st leg)

During the 1st leg, you’ll be driving mostly along the popular Pacific Coast Highway, and some of my favorite places along the California coast include:

Dana Point

- The Pilgrim in Dana Point is the replica vessel of the famous Brig Pilgrim ship. This landmark is for me one of my favorite places to visit along the California coast.

Newport Beach

- Balboa Island Museum boasts many photographs and memorabilia on Balboa’s fascinating past

- Newport Harbor Nautical Museum boasts many interactive exhibits such as one where you can experience the feeling of being submerged.

Huntington Beach

- Huntington Surfing Museum in Huntington Beach is a great place to learn about surfing legends. Exhibits here change periodically but they're always interesting.

Long Beach

If you have time along the way, the Long Beach Aquarium and the Museum of Latin American Art are worth checking out.
Best Places to visit in California
Santa Monica

Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica is a great place to visit, especially if you’re traveling with kids. There are pier attractions and arcade games for everyone to enjoy.

Malibu

Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu offers beach camping and boasts lovely beaches. This a great stop-over point, if you need to spend the night.

Oxnard

Emma Wood State Beach in Oxnard also offers beach camping and it’s another great stop-over point during your trip along the California coast. (see places to visit in Oxnard CA)

Oxnard – San Francisco (2nd leg)

After spending the night in Malibu or Oxnard, you can start the 2nd leg of the trip which will be mainly along California Highway 1. Here are some of my favourite places along this leg:

Santa Barbara

- Santa Barbara Botanic Garden in Santa Barbara is a nice place to visit with the family and relax along the beautiful flower trails.

- Santa Barbara Courthouse is another place you should add on your list of places to visit along the California coast, simply because of the stunning beauty of the courthouse.

Oceano Dunes

Oceano Dunes is another of my favourite places to visit along the California coast, mainly because it is the only California State Park that allows you to drive on the beach. If you’re driving a 4x4 you’ll have a blast here!

Morro Bay

Museum of Natural History in Morro Bay is a nice little museum with top notch interactive exhibits, and since the museum is located on a bluff, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Morro Bay.

Pfeiffer Big Sur and Andrew Molera state parks

Pfeiffer Big Sur and Andrew Molera state parks boast a few campgrounds and are great places to enjoy the outdoors and spending the night.

Santa Cruz

- Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz (near San Jose) is one of my favorite places to visit along the California coast, and it has to be one of the best vacation spots in Western US.
US West Coast Tourist Attractions
The boardwalk is beautiful with many fun attractions and the best part is that the beach is right by the park.

- Santa Cruz Surfing Museum is another attraction worth checking out. It is housed in an old lighthouse and since entry is free that’s got to be a bonus!

San Francisco

Once you get to "The City by the Bay", you’ll certainly be spoiled by the array of attractions on offer. There are certainly many fun things to do in San Francisco but a few of my favorite places to visit are San Francisco Cable Car Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Grace Cathedral.

Best Places to See Fall Foliage

Best Places to See Fall Foliage
Beautiful Places to visit in New England
Are you looking for some of the best places to vacation in the US to experience the fall foliage?

The fall foliage in the states, roughly speaking, starts as early as mid September and ends as late as mid November.

Traditionally, places such as New York StateMassachusettsVermont and Maine in New England, as well as Wisconsin and Michigan in the Midwest experience the fall foliage first.

If you’re planning a late fall foliage vacation and are wondering what the best destinations in November are, here it is a list of some of the best places to see fall foliage:

Late October

Washington State

Located south of Tacoma and Seattle, Mt Rainier National Park is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Washington State. In fact, south of Mt Rainier Park, Paradise and Packwood are two other popular spots to see the fall colors.

In Paradise (located within Snoqualmie National Forest), you’ll find Narada Falls and Reflection Lakes where you can truly soak in the lovely scenery, and appreciate the color change. The trails along Reflection Lakes are especially spectacular in the morning, as they offer lovely lake reflections of the mountain. Packwood (located within Gifford Pinchot National Forest) is another excellent place to see the bursting and vibrant colors of the fall.

Early November

Arkansas

If you’re looking to enjoy a late fall foliage vacation, the state of Arkansas is probable one of the best places to travel in October in the US for leaf-peepers.

For instance, the majestic Ouachita Forest has many great spots for watching the leaves turning color. For me, one of the best places to see fall foliage within Ouachita National Forest is Little Missouri Falls recreational area, near Glenwood Arkansas.

Mississippi

North of Mississippi, Holly Springs National Forest is one of the most popular places to see the fall foliage in early November. One of the best spots within Holly Springs National Forest is the Wall Doxey State Park, which is centered on a lovely spring lake.

Apart from being a great spot for seeing the leaf color change, Wall Doxey State Park is just 30 miles of Memphis Tennessee.

Alabama

Leaf change color begins to show in the mountains of North Alabama also in early October, although colors will be at their peak in early November. The cities of Huntsville AL and Decatur AL are within a short distance of some of the best places to see fall foliage.
Must see Attractions in Alabama
For instance, the Joe Wheeler State Park is just 30 miles west of Decatur, and offers the perfct spot for enjoying other activities such as fishing, boating and hiking. Then, you have the Monte Sano State Park which is just 5 miles east of Huntsville AL.

Georgia

The Chattahoochee National Forest, located north of Atlanta in Georgia, is one best places to see fall foliage. For instance, Brasstown Bald Visitor Center boasts an observation deck that offers great views to see the fall colors.

Driving along the Russell-Brasstown Byway is another way to experience the fall colors, and the best thing is that this scenic highway also offers plenty of historical landmarks to see as well as natural attractions such as cascading waterfalls and rocky cliffs. If you’re planning a camping trip in the Brasstown District during your fall foliage vacation, the area offers plenty of outdoor opportunities for backpacking, fishing and hiking.
