St. John’s is one of the best places to base your vacation in Newfoundland since it’s the tourist hotspot in Newfoundland.

St John’s international airport is also 20 minutes drive from the city center, which makes it very convenient to get to.

St John’s has a very unique atmosphere, great nightlife and many cultural attractions like art galleries that you can visit, and festivals that you can attend such as the Mardi Gras Festival in October.

St John’s is one of the most interesting places to visit in Newfoundland and you’ll love exploring the downtown area to marvel at the colorful low-rise buildings.

The Rooms is one of the biggest attractions in the city, and one not to be missed if you’re interested in learning about the history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador

Other interesting places to visit in St John’s that you don’t want to miss include the Railway Coastal Museum, Cabot Tower (pictured) in Signal Hil National Historic Site, Fort Amherst, Newfoundland Museum and Pippy Park.

Pippy Park, in particular, is a cool place because it boast other attractions such as a fluvarium and skiing trails.

Don't forget to visit St. John's Waterfront, especially in the summer months to check out the fishing boats and luxury cruises.

Nain

The town of Nain is located in Labrador, and it is a popular destination for base yourself from if you intend to enjoy adventure tours such as snowmobile tours, and trekking and wildlife viewing tours.

Nain isn’t just snow and cold weather all year round. In fact, during the summer months when the ice melts you can see beautiful wild flowers dotting the area and you can visit the beach and enjoy a bit of swimming.

Another thing that makes Nain one of the interesting places to visit in Newfoundland and Labrador are the abandoned mining camps and DEW line stations scattered around, which are quite fun to explore.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Happy Valley-Goose Bay is one of the most popular places in Labrador for outdoor adventure tours in the winter season.

There are numerous lakes for kayaking and canoeing trips, as well as hundreds of groomed trails for snowmobiling.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay is also one of the most popular destinations in Labrador and one of the most interesting places to visit in Newfoundland and Labrador during the summer and fall months because of the many fun events and festivals. Some of my favorite ones include:

The town of North West River is located around 40 minutes drive south of Happy Valley-Goose Bay town.

North West River is a great side trip while in Happy Valley-Goose Bay if you’d like to enjoy scenic walking trails through the forest and hikes to the top of Sunday Hill which offers stunning views of Lake Melville.

North West River also boasts a heritage museum and an interpretation center with cool exhibits and plenty of interesting information about Labrador's history.

Churchill Falls

Churchill Falls is located four hours drive west of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and it’s famously known for being home to the largest underground hydro-electric development in the world.

You’ll also be able to take a free tour of the hydro facility. If you’ve never been to a hydro facility before, be sure to add Churchill Falls to your list of interesting places to visit in Newfoundland and Labrador. It’s an amazing experience!

Angra dos Reis

Literary translated, Angra dos Reis means Creek of Kings and it is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Rio de Janeiro state because of the unspoiled coastline. Angra is surrounded by stunning scenery and pristine beaches, and it’s one of the most popular day trips destinations from Rio de Janeiro.

Tips For Tourists Traveling to Brazil

Angra is just a couple of hours drive south of the capital city, and this place is a water-sports enthusiast paradise. You can do anything from parasailing and surfing to fishing and sailing trips to nearby IIha Grande which boasts hundreds of hiking trails.

Niteroi

Niteroi is located across the bay from Rio de Janeiro and it’s linked to Rio by the Rio-Niteroi Bridge which makes Niteroi easily accessible to get to on a day trip.

Niteroi is only 10 minutes drive from Rio, yet it has the "off the beaten path" feel to it. There are many attractions and things you can do in Nisteroi such as taking walking tours of the city center, relaxing by the beach, shopping and enjoying a bit of surfing.

There are also many look-outs that offer memorable views of Rio’s bay and the sea. If you’re interested in fun tours, you can take a guided tour of Santa Cruz Fort and learn more about its history. The MAC Niteroi is also one of the most interesting places to visit in Rio de Janeiro state as it boasts many exhibitions and collections by the best Brazilian contemporary artists.

Petropolis

The town of Petropolis is another of my favorite places to visit in Rio de Janeiro state because of the Imperial Museum. The Imperial Museum is an incredible place because of the Royal memorabilia found belonging to Brazil’s emperor. you'll find items such as an Imperial carriage, a portrait of the emperor himself and other interesting artifacts.

Besides the Imperial Museum, exploring the city on foot is also a joy because of the beautiful mansions, houses and architecture such as the Cathedral of Peter de Alcantara - home to the emperor’s mausoleum.

If you’d like to visit Petropolis on a day trip, the town is located 60 minutes drive north of Rio de Janeiro.

Buzios

If you’re looking for an ideal place to spend a quite beach vacation away from the large crowds that the capital Rio de Janeiro and other nearby beach spots bring, you’ll absolutely love spending time in Buzios.

Buzios has to be on your list of interesting places to visit in Rio de Janeiro state because of the stunning white sandy beaches and clear waters, ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving trips. Buzios is also a popular place to visit because of the fun schooner boat tours that take you out to explore all of Buzios’ 20 beaches.

Buzios is over 2 hours drive east of Rio and around 30 minutes drive from Cabo Frio. However, if you do plan on visiting Buzios, I’d suggest spending 2 or 3 nights there to get the most of out of the place.

Paraty

Paraty is located on the southernmost part of the state, and it is another charming and beautiful Brazilian town. Paraty is definitely a “must” on the list of interesting places to visit in Rio de Janeiro state because of the forest protected areas and Paraty’s historic center, which is filled with beautiful colonial buildings and cobblestone streets.

There are many things to do in Paraty such as enjoying a schooner boat trip to explore the beaches and Paraty bay, as well as Jeep tours to explore the remote areas of Paraty. Apart from water related activities, you can hop on a horse-drawn carriage for a fun tour of the town.

Also, taking a walking tour on foot is also a great way to soak in the sights and admire the houses, forts and churches found nearby such as St. Rita Church – the oldest church in Paraty.

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, known as the City of God, it’s the home to the famed Christ the Redeemer landmark, Copacabana and the Rio Carnival. Rio de Janeiro is, without a doubt, the most popular city in the state and the whole of Brazil for that matter.

There isn’t a place quite like the city of Rio de Janeiro and it’s not surprising why many travelers make Rio their prime destination.

What Makes the Rio Carnival Such an Inspirational Event?

There are lots of attractions and things to do in Rio de Janeiro but some of my favorite ones include a visit to the look-out points of Corcovado Hill and Sugar Loaf Mountain to get amazing views of Rio’s downtown area, the favelas and Copacabana beach.

People-watching and enjoying the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema are also a popular thing to do.

If you enjoy walking tours, downtown Rio boasts many neighborhoods such as Flamengo and Botafogo where you’ll find many restaurants and museum such as the National Museum of Arts and the Carmen Miranda Museum.

The state of New South Wales is perhaps most famously known for Sydney, home to the famed Opera House landmark and the stunning Bondi Beach.

However, if you’re looking for things to do in New South Wales besides the beach, how about skiing in the Perisher Valley or enjoying a winery tour in the town of Mudgee?


If you’re planning a trip this year and are looking for cool places to visit in New South Wales, here it is of list places and things you can do there:

Coffs Harbour

Coffs Harbour is roughly the half way point between Brisbane and Sydney and boasts many beautiful beaches and many unspoiled forests areas nearby.

Coffs Harbour is one of my favorite spots in New South Wales as it draws fewer crowds than other popular spots in the state.

You’d love walking along the breakwater wall and the boardwalk for a relaxing stroll taking in the views.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Coffs Harbour is the Big Banana attraction which is a banana-shaped building with fun attractions like waterslides and play areas.

The Clog Barn is another interesting place to visit in Coffs Harbour, and one of the coolest places to visit in New South Wales, as you can see clog making demonstrations, as well as a neat scaled reproduction of a Dutch village, which includes working windmills and a railway.

Newcastle

Newcastle is located also along the coast of New South Wales and it's around 2 hours drive north of Sydney.

If you’re looking for a day trip from Sydney to escape the crowds, or a relaxing destination in New South Wales, look no further than Newcastle.

Newcastle is one of my favorite places to visit in New South Wales because of Newcastle’s beautiful seaside front, relaxing atmosphere and friendly locals.

If you’re traveling to New South Wales looking to enjoy plenty of beach walks, Newcastle won’t disappoint, especially as you walk the lovely beaches of Nobbys beach and Newcastle beach.

One interesting place to visit if you’re interested in Newcastle’s maritime past, it is the Newcastle Region Maritime and Military Museum, as it's housed at Fort Scratchley.

King Edward Park is another interesting place to explore in Newcastle because of the amazing ocean views you can get from the cliffs, and Bogey Hole which is a popular swimming spot.

Sydney

Sydney should definitely be on your list of places to visit in New South Wales as there are lots of fun and interesting things to do in this cosmopolitan city.

Sydney is also located along the coast of New South Wales and it is famously characterized by the two stunning landmarks of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Cool places to visit in Sydney include the Sydney Tower, Sydney Opera House and China Town.

If you’re interested in history and architecture, don’t miss a visit to the Barracks Museum at Hyde Park and a walk along The Rocks district to check out the colonial buildings.

If you’re only visiting Sydney on a day trip or for a short vacation, two must-see places are the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Outback Center where you can learn about Aboriginal culture.

Blue Mountains National Park

Blue Mountains National Park is without a doubt one of the best and most popular national parks in the country and it’s only a couple of hours drive west of Sydney.

Blue Mountains is one of the most popular day trips from Sydney so if you’re basing your holiday in Sydney and are looking to enjoy fun outdoor activities, Blue Mountains Park offers this and more.

The park boasts many hiking trails that lead to look-out points where you can get amazing views such as the Govett Leap look-out which offers views of Horseshoe falls.

Having said this, there are other options for fun ways to explore the park such as hopping on the Zig Zag steam train and the cable car ride to take in the beautiful sights.

However, if you’re an outdoors enthusiast and nature lover, you’d be glad to hear that Belize also boasts underwater caves that you can explore, and three reserves and a wildlife sanctuary where you can explore fauna and flora.

Must Do Things in Central America

If you’ve never been on a Belize vacation before, you’ll love everything that the country has to offer. The people are super friendly, the food is delicious and the vast amount of attractions will make a vacation in Belize a memorable one.

Here it is a list of some of the top places to visit in Belize that you may add to your itinerary:

Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is one of the top places to visit in Belize, especially if you’re traveling to Belize to enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving tours.

Best 5 Travel Destinations in Central America

The sandy beaches are stunning and the crystal clear waters filled with coral are just ideal to enjoy a bit of snorkeling on the side.

Caye Caulker is the nearest island to mainland Belize and can be reached by plane. However, if you’re on a budget and want to soak in the views, I’d suggest hopping on a fast boat, and it’d only take 45 minutes.

Ambergris Caye

Ambergris Caye is Belize’s largest island, located further north from Caye Caulker.

Ambergris Caye also boasts amazing beaches but what makes Ambergris Caye one of the top places to visit in Belize it’s the majestic Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world.

You can reach Ambergris Caye from Belize City by plane (through Tropicana Air), and fast boat taxi service, though it takes around 90 minutes.

Things to do in Ambergris Caye include enjoying snorkeling tours at Hol Chan marine reserve, exploring the national parks and visiting the Maya archeological sites.

Xunantunich Site

Xunantunich is one of the four main Maya archeological sites in mainland Belize, and also one of the furthest from Belize City.

Xunantunich is located close to the Guatemala border, near the town of San Ignacio, and it is home to the second biggest Mayan temple-pyramid in Belize –El Castillo.

Caracol Site

If you’re planning on visiting the Xunantunich Maya site, the Caracol Maya site is just nearby Xunantunich Site, so you may want to plan for a visit here as well.

The Caracol site boasts the tallest Maya step-pyramid in Belize – El Caracol - as well as an interesting open-air museum displaying Mayan artifacts.

Altun Ha Site

The Altun Ha ancient Maya site is also one of the top places to visit in Belize because of the extensive Mayan ruins found here.

The site boasts large temple-pyramids such as the Temple of the Masonry Altars which is an excellent vantage point for overlooking of the Site.

Altun Ha Maya Ruins are also the most accessible in the country since they are located in the heart of Belize City.

Lamanai Site

Lamanai Site (pictured) is another important Maya Sites in Belize, though only accessible with an organized tour due its location along the river.

Lamanai Site is located northwest of Belize City and it’s one of the most amazing Maya Sites in Belize because of the intricately-detailed stone carvings found on the temples.

If you do plan on visiting the Lamanai Site, or any other Maya Sites in Belize for that matter, I’d suggest booking in advance or as soon as you arrive in Belize.

You can reach the Lamanai Site by plane, though you have to land first at San Jose Palmar airstrip, and then taking a connecting bus.

Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary

The Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the top places to visit in Belize, and if like me, you enjoy wildlife spotting and getting up close with nature, you’ll love this attraction.

You can hike the trails by yourself, though you can hire a local guide at the sanctuary’s visitor center who will also take you on a boat tour on the park’s lagoons.

If you’re not using car rental, there is a bus from Belize City that runs directly to the sanctuary, if you're wondering how to get there.

However, if you book a Crooked Tree eco-tour in Belize City, your transportation and meals will also be covered, so it’s worth thinking about this option also.

Hopkins

A visit to Belize wouldn’t be complete without spending a few nights at one of the local villages to soak some culture.

For instance, the fishing village of Hopkins, which is on my list of top places to visit in Belize because it offers a great opportunity to soak in the real Belize.

In Hopkins village, you’ll be able to see traditional Belizean way of living, and you’ll be able to purchase very affordable hand-made goods such as bags and baskets.

Hopkins village is a fair long shot from Belize City (around 2 hours by bus), which is why I recommend spending a couple of nights in the village.

There isn’t a direct bus from Belize City to Hopkins village, so you’ll have to take a connecting bus from the town of Dangria.

Bordered by Quebec Province, the Province of New Brunswick Canada is perhaps most famously known for one of the most amazing natural phenomena - the Old Sow Whirlpool – one of the largest tidal whirlpools in the world.

New Brunswick is certainly an outdoors enthusiast paradise boating pristine forests and peaks such as Mt Carleton, the highest peak in the Maritime provinces.

Apart from outdoor pursuits, New Brunswick boasts a cultural heart – Fredericton – where you’ll find many cultural attractions such as museums, historic buildings such as the Old Government House, and festivals such as the annual Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival.

Saint John

First on my list of interesting places to visit New Brunswick it's the city of Saint John, located on the southern coast.

Here, you'll find the - Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site -a great tourist attraction to visit because of the magnificent views you can get of the bay and Nova Scotia in the distance.

At the tower, you can arrange an interesting tour and learn more about the history of the tower during World War II.

If you’re traveling with kids and are looking for family-friendly attractions in St John, you can visit the Cherry Brook Zoo and the Canada Games Aquatic Centre which has fun water slides.

If you are also planning side trips during your vacation in New Brunswick, one popular Saint John day tip is visiting the beautiful Cape Chignecto Provincial Park in Nova Scotia.

You can hop on a ferry from Saint John’s harbor for the channel crossing to Digby Nova Scotia and visit Provincial Park, which also boast an interpretive visitor’s center.

Grand Manan Island

Grand Manan Island is a great spot for enjoying wild life spotting and it’s on my list of interesting places to visit in New Brunswick because of the whale-watching opportunities.

Grand Manan Island is one of the best spots for experiencing amazing whale sights such as Humpback whales and Finback whales, and you can either hire a fishing boat to get up close and personal, or enjoy whale watching spotting from the soaring cliffs.

By the way, you can reach Grand Manan Island by ferry ride from Blacks Harbor, taking around 80 minutes sailing time.

Hopewell Rocks

The Bay of Fundy spans the southern coast of the country, and one of the most popular natural attractions along the bay it's the Hopewell Rocks (pictured).

Hopewell Rocks is one of the most interesting places to visit in New Brunswick because of the interesting tidal range phenomena that occurs at low and high tide.

Hopewell Rocks also boasts pristine scenery and stunning rock formations such as the famed Hopewell Rock formations, which are rocks shaped by the tides in the form of “flower pots”.

Not far from the Hopewell Rocks, you’ll also find the beautiful Fundy National Park where you can do hiking while enjoying nature sightseeing such as waterfalls scattered throughout the park.

Fredericton

The capital of Fredericton is also a great place to visit on a day trip, or base your vacation in New Brunswick, especially if you’re looking to enjoy city activities like visiting museums and art galleries such as the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the York Sunbury Museum.

Fredericton is also on my list of interesting places to visit in New Brunswick because of the changing of the guard ceremony at Officer’s Square.

If you’ve seen the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace in London in England, or the changing of the guards at the Stockholm Royal Palace in Sweden, you’ll enjoy seeing the beautiful display of the Canadian Armed Forces re-enacting a drill ceremony.

The Old Sow Whirlpool

The Old Sow Whirlpool is located near the Maine-New Brunswick border and it is one of the most interesting places to visit in New Brunswick for sure.

If you’ve never seen a whirlpool before, you’ll be blown away by the Old Sow, as you watch the vortex swirling and bubbling water.

The Old Sow Whirlpool is located off the coast of Deer Island NB, and you can also be reached by ferry from Eastport in Maine.

Mount Carleton Provincial Park

If you’re a hiking enthusiast looking to do many outdoor pursuits, be sure to add Mount Carleton Provincial Park to the list of interesting places to visit in New Brunswick.

The park is great for backpacking and hiking as it boasts many different trails to suit all levels and plenty of wilderness.

You can also do fauna and flora spotting as well as enjoying wilderness camping, though the camping sites here are primitive camping so no hook ups.

Alaska is perhaps most famously known for Mt McKinley, one of the top natural wonders in the USA, as well as Sitka Alaska and Denali National Park, which one of the best places in Alaska to enjoy a nature excursion and spot the ever elusive Northern Lights.

If you’re planning a trip to Alaska and are intending on exploring the whole state, you’ll soon discover that a vacation to Alaska will be like no other as Alaska is so vast and so isolated that the only way to reach some places is by air transportation.

Having said this, this is the beauty and uniqueness of Alaska that makes a trip to Alaska special as it offer an unparalleled experience.

Anchorage

If you’re visiting Alaska for the first time, Anchorage is the best starting point for a first time vacation in the state because of the many top things to do in Anchorage and opportunities for day trips.

Anchorage boasts some of the interesting places to visit in Alaska and it is a great place to learn more about Alaskan culture and heritage.

Anchorage AK boats many museums which include the Anchorage Museum, Alaska Trooper Museum, Alaska Heritage Museum, Alaska Museum of Natural History, Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum and the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

If you’re only visiting Anchorage for a short time, the one place you don’t want to miss during your visit in Anchorage is the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

You can spend easily a few hours at the Alaska Native Heritage Center because of the many activities the center offers such as walking tours of the different villages where you can interact with native Alaskans as well as watching traditional dance demonstrations.

Seward

The town of Seward is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Alaska because of it’s location within the Kenai Fjords National Park

Seward also makes for a perfect day trip from Anchorage if you need to getaway from the crowds to a more peaceful location.

You can reach Seward from Anchorage on a scenic cruise, coach transfer and bus shuttle service, although the train ride is perhaps the best way to get to Seward because it offers the best opportunity for wildlife spotting and marvelling at breathtaking scenery.

Denali National Park and Preserve

Denali National Park and Preserve is, without a doubt, one of the most interesting places to visit in Alaska becuase it's simply an outdoor’s enthusiast paradise.

If you’re visiting Alaska, exclusively for enjoying wildlife and glacier sightings, fall foliage tours, backpacking trips and nature excursions, Denali Park offers all of these activities in abundance.

Denali Park is pretty much an all year around destination, however, the summer season (late May through early September) is the best time to explore Denali Park as the park's rangers organize nature tour activities as well as bus sightseeing tours that take you along cliffs and mountain passes.

Fairbanks

Fairbanks is located north of Denali Park and it's on my list of interesting places to visit in Alaska because of the University of Alaska Museum.

The University of Alaska Museum is one of the best museums in the state and a great destination for the whole family to enjoy a fun day out.

The museum features interesting exhibits and interesting films such as the one about the enigmatic Aurora Borealis.

As a side note, I would also say that if you’re traveling to Alaska on a budget and wondering what places you mustn't miss, the Alaska Native Center in Anchorage and the University of Alaska Museum in Fairbanks are two of them because they're the best places to learn about Alaskan history.

While in Fairbanks, you also don’t want miss a visit to the Ice Museum to check out the ice-made sculptures and watch ice craftsmen at work, as well as the Pioneer Air Museum which has on display an interesting range of WWII fighter planes.

Juneau

Juneau is surrounded by the Glacier Bay Park & Wilderness and close to the British Columbia Canada border.

This place is one of the best places to enjoy and appreciate Alaska’s pristine scenery, enjoy fun attractions and a bit of outdoor life as well as learning about the cultural heritage of Alaska.

Juneau is definitely on my list of interesting places to visit in Alaska, and if you’re planning to visit, you should allow at least a couple of days to explore all the town's attractions.

For instance, you can enjoy whale watching tours, as well as hiking excursions on top of Mt. Roberts to check out the famed tree and Totem pole carvings.

Things to do as a tourist in Nevada besides gambling

Nevada is perhaps most famously known for being home to the Loneliest Road in America – Route 50, and Las Vegas, one of the top 25 places to visit in the US and most renowned cities around the world.

Having said this, a trip to Nevada doesn’t need to be limited to Las Vegas alone.

In fact, places such as downtown Sparks become the focal point in Nevada with one of the biggest summer events in the state –Hot Augusts Nights.

Then, you have the many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking the Great Basin National Park and experiencing the solitude of the desert, as well as exploring old mining ghost towns such as Osceola.

If you're wondering what Nevada has to offer for a vacation, here it is a list of my favourite places to visit in Nevada that will enjoy exploring:

Reno

The city of Reno has a very relaxed atmosphere and shares many similarities with Las Vegas minus the glitz and glamour.

The city of Reno is on my list of interesting places to visit in Nevada because of the superb National Automobile Museum.

If are into vintage autos and have been to other automobile museums such as Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, you’d love exploring the amazing collection at the National Automobile Museum.

You’ll see beautiful restored vehicles from the 30’s all the way to the early 60’s which include a replica “BatMobil” and the famous Bill Harrah's Jerrari.

Another pro about Reno is that it’s just a stone-throw away from California and Lake Tahoe so you get a chance to enjoy fun water activities in the summer or skiing activities during the winter months.

Carson City

Carson City is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Nevada because of Carson City’s mining heritage and history.

because of this, the city boasts hundreds of 19th century buildings, abandoned shafts and historic sites that you can visit and learn more about the city’s history.

If you do plan on visiting Lake Tahoe from Reno, you may as well include a stop by Carson City since it’s on the way.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas is without a doubt, the biggest destination in the state, and one of the most interesting places to visit in Nevada, hands down!

If you’re visiting Las Vegas for a short time you won’t be able to see everything that Las Vegas offers so you’d want to make the most of your time there by heading straight to the most interesting places and attractions. Here it is a top 6 of must-see attractions in Las Vegas:

Insanity the Ride

If you love thrill rides, you’d love dangling over the edge of the Stratosphere Tower to enjoy stunning breathtaking views of Las Vegas.

Fremont Street Experience

Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park

If you’re a history buff, and would like to learn more about the history of Las Vegas, the Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park is a great place to do this.

At the historic park, you’ll also see the actual Mormon Fort, which was the first ever structure erected in Las Vegas in 1855.

Exhibits

While in Las Vegas, if you can fit anymore attractions you also don’t want to miss out checking the interesting exhibits such as “Bodies” and “Titanic” at Luxor.

At the “Bodies” exhibit you can learn about human organs and body parts in a fascinating way, while at the “Titanic” exhibit you can see actual items salvaged from the wreck.

Osceola

The ghost town of Osceola is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Nevada because of Osceola’s fascinating gold mining history.

There are many more ghost towns you can visit in Nevada, but Osceola was actually the last-operating placer mining town in Nevada as well as the place where the largest ever gold-nugget was found in Nevada.

Osceola is located north of the Great Basin National Park, just a few miles from the border with Utah. Today, you can only see a few remaining structures and a cemetery, but it’s worth the visit if you’re within the area.

Elko County

If you’re traveling to Nevada this autumn and fancy experiencing the leaf-color change, one of the best places to see fall foliage in Nevada is Elko County, located northeast of the state.

In Elko County, you’ll find many canyons such as Lamoille Canyon teaming with trees and colorful hillsides where you can appreciate brilliant shades of yellow and orange.

Montana is an outdoors enthusiast paradise and one of the most popular vacation spots in the Western US to enjoy a camping vacation.

Things to do on vacation in Montana 

You can do anything from shopping and walking tours in historic areas such as Last Gulch Chance Street in Helena Montana, and scenic drives and nature hikes through the stunning Rocky Mountains to exploring prehistoric rock art in the Helena National Forest.
No matter what you do, one thing is for sure, a vacation in Montana will be a fun and memorable experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is one of the top 10 natural wonders in the US, and one of the most interesting places to visit in Montana because of the Rocky Mountains and enjoyable scenic drives such as the "Going-to-the-Sun Road" drive, which offers stunning views of glacial peaks, lakes, rocky scenery wildlife and flat prairies along the way. If you’re planning on exploring or visiting Glacier National Park for the first time, I’d suggest a couple of things:

Top 10 Places to visit in the US

First, before you set out to explore the park, head first to Logan Pass Visitors Center to plan your visit with the knowledgeable rangers and get some pointers.

Second, consider booking a vacation rental at Glacier National Park to make the most of your trip to Glacier National Park.

The main reason I say this, it’s that you'll be able to soak all the sights and natural attractions at the park if you stay overnight. Also, since the entry fee to Glacier National Park is $25 dollars, why not make the most of it?

Billings

Billings is the largest city and one of the best places to start your vacation in Montana, if you’re traveling here for the first time, because of the variety of city attractions, lively nightlife and outdoor activities you can do nearby.

Billings is also on my list of interesting places to visit in Montana because of the Yellowstone Art Museum and Pictograph Caves State Park.

If you’re interested in art, the Yellowstone Art Museum has an interesting collection of sculptures and original paintings.

However, if you’re not interested much in art, you'll find fascinating visiting the Yellowstone Art Museum because it used to be a former county prison. In fact, the walls of the county prison were kept and are displayed within the Yellowstone Art Museum as an exhibit.

Pictograph Caves State Park is just in the outskirts of Billings; around 20 minutes drive southeast of Billings city center, and if you’ve never had the opportunity to see Native American rock art before, be sure to add this place to the list of interesting places to visit in Montana.

Pictograph Caves State Park isn’t the only place in Montana where you can see rock art but it is the nearest place to the city of Billings.

You’ll see beautiful paintings carved into rock and you’ll be fascinated by the general ambiance inside the cave.

Pompeys Pillar National Monument

Half-hour drive northeast of Billings and Pictograph Caves State Park, it’s Pompeys Pillar National Monument (see image above), one of the most interesting places to visit in Montana.

Pompeys Pillar is an interesting attraction, not only because of its odd shape, but also because of the carved Native American rock art, as well as the William Clark inscription that he carved, in July 25 1806, into the actual sandstone pillar which, as it happens, it’s the only physical evidence that shows that the Lewis and Clark Expedition took this route.

Helena

Helena is certainly one of the most popular destinations in Montana becuse it’s just a stone-throw from the Helena National Forest.

Helena is on my list of interesting places to visit in Helena because of the stunning downtown district and historic landmarks such as Helena State Capitol and St. Helena Cathedral.

Even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll enjoy exploring the capital city of Helena and taking a stroll through the charming downtown area marveling at the lovely town and beautiful mansions.

Another reason to add Helena to your itinerary of things to do in Montana, it’s because of the ancient rock art located within Helena National Forest.

The rock art found within the canyons of Helena Forest is one of the best places to appreciate prehistoric rock art because the motifs which are quite unique to the Rocky Mountains region.

Missoula

Missoula is one of the largest cities in the states and one of the most popular destinations in Montana because of the opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the year such as hiking and biking during the warm months, and skiing during the winter months.

I added Missoula also to the list of interesting places to visit in Montana because of the “A Carousel for Missoula’ because it is the oldest operational and hand-crafted carousel in the states.

Looking for interesting places to visit in Connecticut?

Connecticut is one of the most “under the radar” states in New England but you’d be surprised to learn that Connecticut isn’t just a drive-through state for traveling on a road trip along the east coast of USA between New York City and Boston in Massachusetts.


Connecticut boasts beautiful rolling hills, fun attractions and a wealth of history since the state was one of the original Thirteen British colonies who formed the United States.

Here it is my list of interesting places to visit in Connecticut, hope you enjoy it:

Gillette Castle State Park

First on my list, it's Gillette castle.You wouldn't want to miss checking out Gillette Castle which has to be one of the most interesting places to visit in Connecticut.

The castle is one of the most unique castles you’ll ever come across, and it is surrounded by beautiful grounds. You can tour the inside of the castle and see the lovely stained glass windows and interesting décor.

Connecticut Valley Railroad State Park

Located in Chester Center, the Valley Railroad State Park is another of the interesting places to visit in Connecticut as it is home to the famed Essex Train Station.

Apart from the 19th century railroad station -Essex Steam Train Station-, you'' also find lovely steam locomotives.

The railroad is still operational, and you can take an amazing scenic ride on the vintage carriages up the historic Connecticut River Valley.

If you’re visiting Gillette Castle, the Valley Railroad State Park is just across the Connecticut River. Around nine miles if you’re driving by car along the Bridge Rd.

Mystic

Just like the seaport of Portsmouth in New Hampshire, Mystic Connecticut also has a rich maritime history, and there is no better place to experience the seafaring life that at Mystic Seaport.

Mystic Seaport is on my list of interesting places to visit in Connecticut because there is no place quite like it in New England.

Mystic Seaport is a great recreation of a period seaport village. You’ll see people dressed in clothing of the time, small shacks and a 19th century whale ship which you can tour!

If you are traveling with small kids, you can also visit the Mystic Aquarium and see the fun sea lion show.

Hartford

The city of Hartford is on my list of interesting places to visit in Connecticut because of the opportunity for walking history tours.

If you’re visiting Connecticut to enjoy self-guided walking tours, Hartford is an excellent place to do this due to its small size.

A few places you don’t want to miss visiting in Hartford are the Old State Capital, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, Bushnell Memorial Park and Traveler’s Tower observation deck where you can get lovely views of the city.

Windsor Locks

If you’re staying in Hartford and are looking for fun tours and day trips, the town of Windsor Locks makes for an interesting day trip because it’s only 20 minutes drive north of Hartford.

Windsor Locks is home to one of the most interesting places to visit in Connecticut – The New England Air Museum.

Even though planes might not be everyone’s cup of tea, you’re sure to be blown away the minute you see the aircraft hangers at the museum.

Amongst all the attractions at the air museum, the beautifully restored World War II B-29 bomber has to be the hot attraction.

Sleeping Giant State Park

If you’re traveling to Connecticut this autumn, you can experience the fall foliage colors typically between late September and early November.

Having said this, I prefer to visit the last week of October to catch the leaves at their peak!

There are many options on how to enjoy the fall colors such as taking a river cruise tour along the Connecticut River or taking a scenic drive along historic Route 169.

Sleeping Giant State Park, in Hamden CT, is for me one of the best places to see the fall foliage in New England.

The park is a lovely place to hike and get stunning views, especially from the stone tower vantage point, where you can get amazing 360 degrees views!

Best Beaches in Western Michigan

Most people think of the city Detroit when they hear Michigan, but you’d be surprise to learn that Michigan is more than city attractions!

Michigan boasts pristine scenery, fun summer events, lovely lighthouses and some of the best Beaches on Lake Michigan. Michigan is definitely one of the most underrated vacation spots in the Midwest, though the state is a hidden gem with fantastic natural attractions and charming historic towns waiting to be explored!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has to be one of the most interesting places to visit in Michigan, if anything for the amazing tall dunes. Whether you’re traveling with kids or with friends, you can’t miss out on climbing the dunes to get lovely views of the area.

Apart from dunes, the Sleeping Bear is home to other interesting attractions that you can check out like the Life-Saving Museum, the Glen Haven Blacksmith Shop and the Cannery Boat Museum.

Ludington

Michigan is known for its lighthouses, and Ludington is home to some of the most popular lighthouses in the state such as the North Breakwater Lighthouse. The cool thing about the North Breakwater Lighthouse is that the light is open to the public for tours, and you can walk along the breakwall to enjoy the views.

Apart from the lighthouses, the town of Ludington is on my list of interesting places to visit in Michigan because of the S.S. Badger carferry.

The Badger Ferry is an interesting way to explore Lake Michigan, and a fun way to cross the lake and explore other interesting places to visit in Wisconsin.

Traverse City

The beach town of Traverse City is close to the Sleeping Bear National Dunes Park, and it is a great charming historic town where you can enjoy boutique shopping and walking tours. I added Traverse City to my list of interesting places to visit in Michigan for two reasons.

First, if you’re traveling to the area this autumn, Traverse City is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Michigan, especially in Old Mission Peninsula where you can get lovely views of the bay, and appreciate the amazing leaf color change

Second, if you’re a candle enthusiast, Traverse City is home to a candle factory where you can make your own candles to take home.

Saugatuck and Douglas

Located southwest of Grand Rapids, you’ll find the lovely towns of Saugatuck and Douglas. Both Saugatuck and Douglas are two of my best summer vacation spots in the Midwest because of the laid-back and great family vibe.

I added Saugatuck and Douglas to my list of interesting places to visit in Michigan, not only because you can enjoy fun activities like wine tasting but also because of the Saugatuck Ferry, which is one of the last remaining chain driven ferries in the US.

Upper Peninsula

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is certainly one of the most interesting places to visit in Michigan, and the region has to be one of the top 10 natural wonders in the USA.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you’ll be blown away by the stunning natural scenery, the famous cliffs of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the majestic Tahquamenon Waterfalls.

Manistee


The charming riverfront city of Manistee is another interesting place to explore while traveling along the coast of western Michigan. Besides offering beautiful views of Lake Michigan, Manistee boasts plenty of interesting
historic sites to be visited such as the Marilla buildings, the Vogue Theatre and the Kaliva Train Depot, the SS City of Milwaukee car ferry, and the Manistee Fire Department, which is the oldest and continuously operated fire station in Michigan.

One of the best thing though about Manistee it's its lovely trolley service that offers alot of very interesting history of the area.

Tip

If you're wondering about the best time for vacation in Michigan, I would have to say that spring and fall seasons are great for hiking and camping, while the summer months are great for enjoying water activities.

I would avoid winter though, mainly because Michigan is famously known for its cold and snowy winters, and with good reason, it snows in Michigan by the bucket loads!

Going on a road trip with the family through Kansas and Missouri and planning on taking in the sights?

For me, Kansas is one of the top places to vacation with kids because of the slow pace of life. If you're wondering about what interesting places to visit  in Kansas, you'll be glad to know that Kansas isn't just farms and small towns. For instance, in places such as Kansas City and Wichita KS, you can enjoy many major events, up-scale shopping and great nightlife.

To give an idea and point you in the right direction, here are some of my most favourite interesting places to visit in Kansas that many enjoy visiting:

Wichita

Two of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas, for me, are the Old Cowtown and the Mid-American All Indian Centre in Wichita Kansas.


Old Cowtown is a very special place and unique open-air museum where you can get a taste of the Old West. This historic town features dirt streets, people dressed in period clothes and restored old buildings. Also, during the summer months, you can see fun re-enactments of a typical day in 1800's Kansas.

At the All Indian Center, you can Native American work such as the popular Blackbear Bosin's "The Keeper of the Plains".

Hutchinson

Hutchinson is another of my favorite interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the Kansas Cosmosphere Center.

At the Cosmosphere Center you can see moon rocks, spy planes and even a full-size replica of the Space Shuttle.

The Cosmosphere is probably the biggest attraction in Kansas, and one place I recommend taking your family. Your kids will love you for it!

Atchison

The small town of Atchison is located right on the Kansas-Missouri border, northwest of Kansas City.

Atchison is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas as it is the birthplace of Amelia Earhart, which was first woman to fly the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia’s house is today a museum open to the public and a great place to see where the aviatrix grew up. Inside the house, you’ll see pictures of Amelia’s husband and grandparents, as well as other items.

Lindsborg

If you’ve never been to Sweden but always wanted to visit, don’t miss visiting the town of Lindsborg (located roughly between Hutchinson and Salina).

This town is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the Swedish style festivals.

Christmas is probably the best time to experience the rich Swedish heritage in Lindsborg. During Christmas time, you have Heritage Christmas where you can enjoy the sounds and sights of a typical Swedish Christmas.

Lucas

Lucas is easily one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because of the rather odd "Garden of Eden". This place is basically a garden filled with concrete sculptures that represent the American past. If you love ‘unusual’ art work, you’ll find the Garden of Eden very interesting indeed!

Cambridge

If you’re visiting the state this autumn, I would suggest visiting on leaf-peeping trip. Kansas is one of the best places to see fall foliage, and one of the best spots to see the color change is the Flint Hills.

The Flint Hills have no trees, but the grasses turn all sorts of colors from reddish brown to golddish tan, which are quite beautiful.

Wamego

The town of Wamego is roughly located between Manhattan KS and Topeka and it is actually one of my favorite vacation spots in the Midwest.

Top 10 Places to go in Kansas

Wamego is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kansas because is home to the fantastic Oz Museum. If, like me, you’re a fan of the Wizard of Oz musical, the museum has many memorabilia stuff such as silent films.

Dodge City

If you are touring the south of Kansas, a visit to Dodge City should be on your list of interesting places to visit in Kansas. Apart from Cowtown, there is no other city in Kansas that is more synonymous of the American Old West.

In particular, you and your kids will love a visit to Boot Hill Museum, in Dodge City as the place has organized recreational gun fights that are really fun to watch.
